Former NBA All-Star Rasheed Wallace made plenty of mistakes over his NBA career, but if there’s one thing he’d tell his younger self only two words came to his mind: calm down.
In a chat with Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes on ‘All the Smoke’ podcast, the former Trail Blazers big man revealed how he’d act differently if he had a chance to do things over again and it wasn’t what many fans were expecting…
“Calm the f*ck down,” Wallace said. “I looked at it as now I’m not living for me, I’m living for [my kids]. Some of the things my mom was saying about being careful in the streets and all that… it’s not just you being safe, but all you also got to protect your family name…”
Sheed’s advice to his younger self is advice we all could use.

Rasheed Wallace Regrets His Past In ‘Jail Blazers’ Era
Wallace then went on to describe an incident he had with his teammate at the time, Damon Stoudamire. The two got caught in a traffic stop where they were caught and charged with possession of marijuana.
“So it’s me, Damon, and then he got his homie driving. So we bang a joint and boom that’s it. So we riding down, enjoying music, talking shit. And he told him ‘slow down a little bit’ but at that same time, that’s when a cop nabbed us… he brought the dogs out, he brought two or three cruisers out. And who rides by us? The f**king team bus.”
Wallace’s story is likely just one of many wild experiences he had with that team. He, Stoudamire, Zach Randolph, and others were part of an iconic group known as the ‘Jail Blazers,’ who inherited the name for being both rough-riders on the court and literal law-breakers off the court.
Rasheed Wallace was part of the craziness for a short time before he moved on to Detroit, but it seems like he’s come to regret some of his actions from the past as a now long-retired family man.
