  • Bradley Beal’s first thought when he heard of Phoenix’s interest was that they might trade Devin Booker for him
  • While he thought it wasn’t right, he was pleasantly surprised to find out that they held on to Booker, Durant, and Ayton in the deal
  • Bradley Beal says he’s looking forward to playing with his new star teammates next season

The Phoenix Suns have swung for the fences by putting together a Big 3 of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal. They gave up a wealth of pick swaps and Chris Paul to make it happen.

Bradley Beal has come in with the understanding that this is Devin Booker’s team. It seems like he will be the third option for the Phoenix Suns. But he recently revealed that when he first heard about a potential trade, he thought it would be Booker that he was traded for.

“I was like, Why are they trading Book? Like there’s no way that this is happening,” Beal said in an interview with Slam Magazine. “Like, this can’t be, this isn’t right. But fast forward, he’s here, I’m here and Kevin’s here, and DA [Deandre Ayton]’s here.

“It’s surreal and crazy to think about how the deal even came to fruition, but it’s done and I’m in an awesome situation where I can compete every single night for a chance to win.”

Bradley Beal and Devin Booker are both primarily shooting guards, so that’s likely where his confusion stemmed from. But even then, for Beal to assume that the Suns would trade their franchise cornerstone for him is a bit rich.

To compare, Devin Booker’s scoring average has gone up every season for the last three years, and he had 27.8 points per game last year. Bradley Beal has fallen off the last couple of seasons, averaging 23.2 points per game last year.

He is also 30 years of age, while Devin Booker is 26 and entering his prime, making this an even weirder thought process. If nothing else, Bradley Beal sure has a high opinion of himself.

Bradley Beal Will Reportedly Play As A Point Guard For The Suns Alongside Devin Booker

Bradley Beal is far from a floor general, he has averaged 4.3 assists per game for his career. But the Phoenix Suns seemingly don’t want him to play shooting guard, with reports suggesting that he will be playing the point guard position in the starting five

This makes sense, they likely don’t want to displace Devin Booker. And Beal’s agent seems to think he will flourish in his new role too. But nothing is ever a given in the NBA, and it remains to be seen how this whole situation will play out next season.
