Isaiah Thomas’ most recent NBA absence didn’t last too long, as the point guard is ready to return to the association after a short tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers. A couple of days after the Purple and Gold announced they wouldn’t offer a new contract to Thomas, the player has found a new opportunity.

The Dallas Mavericks are acquiring his services, adding another undersized guard to play alongside Luka Doncic, as JJ Barea did a couple of seasons ago. Thomas never lost faith, and he knew his chance would come sooner than later.

After a 42-point debut in the G League with the Denver Nuggets affiliate, IT drew some attention and the Lakers offered him a 10-day contract to help amid a COVID-19 outbreak.

The team decided not to offer him a new deal and Thomas started looking for new opportunities. Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that the 2011 NBA champions are signing the former MVP candidate.

Free agent guard Isaiah Thomas plans to sign with the Dallas Mavericks. Thomas is expected to join team in Sacramento tonight.

This is great news for Thomas, who tried so hard to get the call again. He has found a way back to the league and hopefully, he can be a valuable piece in Dallas. They currently rank 8th in the Western Conference, and need all the help they can get to turn things around.

It’s fair to say IT never left, even after getting cut by the Lakers, and it’s good to see he’s now facing a new challenge.
