This is the third straight season that Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic have been the top-two names in the race to win the MVP award.

After losing to Jokic in two back-to-back seasons, many believe Embiid will win the first MVP award of his career by a landslide. But what if there’s a tie? Tom Haberstroh of Meadowlark Media recently revealed NBA analyst Brian Windhorst’s take on it.

There was this report from The Week. This publication did a story about the financial incentives of MVP voting and awards voting by reporters, and [Brian] Windhorst said, ‘My policy has been: if it’s a tie, I’m giving it to the guy who’s getting the extra $30 million.'”

Windhorst has been one of the most respected media members covering the NBA for years now. He has earned the trust of many with his great sense of justice when it comes to getting voting rights for end-season awards.

According to the podcast, Windhorst would prefer his vote go to the player who can make a huge payday if there’s a tie. Well, Embiid could have earned Windhorst’s vote in that scenario during the 2017-18 NBA season.

Embiid had a clause in his contract that would earn him an extra 30% max if he had won the MVP award or was named in the first team All-NBA for the 2017-18 season. Unfortunately, Embiid failed to win the MVP award and was a part of the second team All-NBA that season.

Joel Embiid Is Expected To Win The MVP Award This Season

Joel Embiid averaged 33.1 PPG, 10.2 RPG, and 4.2 APG this season. He has already bagged the scoring title this season and is on track to win the most valuable player as well.

A couple of weeks ago, Shams Charania of ‘The Athletic’ revealed that most NBA players believe Joel Embiid is the runaway MVP for the 2022-23 season.

In addition, with each passing day, the votes of media members are also getting unveiled. ESPN’s Zach Lowe openly admitted picking Embiid as the 2023 NBA MVP. Lowe’s announcement will certainly make an impact on other media members.

Everything points at Embiid winning the honor unless Jokic surprises everyone and wins the third consecutive MVP of his career.
