Bronny James is improving his draft stock leading up to the 2024 NBA Draft. The 19-year-old guard from USC has not featured on many big boards in recent months but might earn a draft spot. When asked about players that impact winning that he studies, Bronny named three solid NBA players.

“Bronny says current players like Derrick White, Jrue Holiday, and Davion Mitchell as NBA players he thinks affect winning in the ways he wants to as a pro.”

The Celtics’ backcourt of White and Holiday are widely regarded as two of the most underrated guards in the NBA because they impact the game through defense with dependable offensive skill sets. White averaged 15.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 5.2 assists this season while Holiday averaged 12.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists this season.

Bronny was compared to Holiday before he started his college season, though those comparisons seem unrealistic given Bronny’s current level of play.

Davion Mitchell might be a more realistic comparison. Mitchell averaged 5.3 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists for the Sacramento Kings this season. He’s their best on-ball defender but his lack of offensive development had him losing minutes for most of the season until Keon Ellis emerged as a more dependable offensive option while maintaining a high caliber of defense.

Bronny James Thinks He’ll Get Drafted On His Talent

One of the biggest talking points of the 2024 NBA Draft is if a team will draft Bronny James earlier than expected to try and entice LeBron James into leaving the Lakers for them. Bronny doesn’t agree with this perspective, saying that no NBA GM would waste a draft pick on a gamble like that.

“Honestly, I feel like this is a serious business. And I don’t feel there would be a thought of, ‘I’m just drafting this kid just because I’m going to get his dad.’ I don’t think a GM would really allow that. I’ve never really thought about it. I think I’ve put in the work and if I get drafted (it would be) because of not only the player but the person I am.”

The messaging from the James camp is becoming clearer about LeBron and Bronny possibly not playing together. Bronny openly said that he doesn’t dream of playing alongside his father, despite LeBron making his desire to be teammates with Bronny clear.

“No, never. My dream has always just been to put my name out, make a name for myself, and get to the NBA, which is everyone’s end goal that’s here. I never thought about just playing with my dad, but of course, he’s brought it up a couple of times. But yeah, I don’t think about it much.”

Bronny is having a solid Draft Combine, leading his team in scoring in his final scrimmage of today.

He’s showing he has the right qualities for an NBA role-player, though being a star like his dad might be out of reach. Bronny has picked the right players to model his game after because his true value will be as a supporting 3-and-D guard who is his team’s primary POA defender.
