Carmelo Anthony claimed last week on the 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, that he never lost a 1-on-1 game against NBA players. The Kid Mero, his co-host, brought up those comments on the latest episode of the podcast and asked if he beat Michael Jordan as well.
Carmelo Anthony: “I don’t want to talk about that… I’m not saying it no way, I’m just saying I don’t want to talk about it because I prefer not to talk about it. Because that was a real moment. I was in sanctuary, like in church, like I was in the temple.”
Anthony revealed it wasn’t a competition between them and they were checking where their games were at.
Anthony: “It wasn’t like yo, we just played to seven or play till 11 and s*** like that. It was like yo, we got two dribbles, you gotta score.”
The 39-year-old shared that Jordan showed him where he could improve his game when they linked up.
Anthony: “When I got with him, it was more kinda individualized and catered to my game. Okay, here’s how I see your game, here’s what I want to give you to add to that. Here’s how you get around that, here’s the tricks of the trade… So, it wasn’t like 1-on-1 games but it was like teaching in real-time in action.”

Anthony said he did take in all that Jordan had to teach him. It’s a pity they never played an actual game, though, as it would have been quite an interesting matchup. Despite Anthony having a bit of a size advantage and being one of the most skilled scorers we have seen, I would have still picked Jordan to beat him.

There has always been a lot of talk about who could have beaten Jordan in these contests. Well the man himself once did reveal who would give him trouble, as Jordan shared the hardest opponents to play against in terms of 1-on-1.
“The hardest opponent for me to play against? In terms of 1-on-1? Small guys,” Jordan said. “[Allen] Iverson, Damon Stoudamire, Rod Strickland. Those little guards like that, it’s tough for me. Muggsy [Bogues]. [John] Starks? No problem with Starks.”
Allen Iverson, of course, famously crossed up Jordan once as well. Those speedy shifty guards seem to be the type he wouldn’t exactly relish going up against. Anthony, meanwhile, was the exact opposite of that as a bigger forward.

Anthony and Jordan go way back, with the latter even signing the former to the Jordan brand in 2003. They have grown close over the years and Anthony hilariously revealed it is impossible to argue with Jordan because he pulls the ring card.
“You cannot argue with that man, it’s impossible,” Melo said on the Millon Dollaz Worth of Game. “He knows a certain of us you know that we go back at him like we’ll talk our s**t to him. But then he gets to start talking about winning and rings and s**t. That’s his defense mechanism.”
Well, Jordan did win six rings and Anthony won none, so the Chicago Bulls icon will forever have the upper hand. A championship was the only thing missing from Anthony’s incredible resume and it’s a shame the 39-year-old never won one.
