The Boston Celtics won Game 1 after they managed to rally in the 4th quarter against the Golden State Warriors. The Boston Celtics had an amazing shooting night, averaging an astounding 51.2% from 3PT range as a team. In particular, veteran big man Al Horford managed to knock down 6 of his 8 attempts from deep against the Warriors.
There is no doubt that the Boston Celtics won’t always be this hot from 3PT range in this series. However, the Golden State Warriors’ defense also gave them a lot of easy looks in this matchup.
A recent post by the Twitter basketball page Legion Hoops revealed that the Boston Celtics were either “open” or “wide open” on 38 of their 41 3PT attempts in Game 1. There is no doubt that this is a crazy statistic, and the Golden State Warriors will need to do a better job of closing out in Game 2.
The Celtics were “open” or “wide open” on 38 of the 41 three-point attempts they took in Game 1.
15 of those attempts were “open”, meaning the nearest defender was 4-6 feet away. 23 were “wide open”, meaning the nearest defender was 6+ feet away.
Wow.

The Boston Celtics are an elite 3PT shooting team, there’s no question that their players are capable of punishing defenses that leave them wide open from range, even if they are on the road.
The Golden State Warriors will do their best to win Game 2, as they do not want to be staring at a 2-0 deficit when heading into the Boston Celtics’ home arena at TD Garden for Game 3. They definitely seem confident despite their recent loss, and Draymond Green claimed that they will be fine in Game 2. However, the Boston Celtics will definitely have a chance to steal that game as well, especially if they keep getting the same open looks that they got in Game 1.
