Being an NBA player comes with a lot of perks, and making millions of dollars each year is certainly one of them. Even an average NBA player can make so much money that he could easily gather a lot of wealth for himself and his family. The true superstars of the league make an even more enormous amount of money.

It is evident from looking at the list of players who have earned the most money through salaries in the NBA. But earning money and being generous are two completely different things. Basketball Hall of Famer Charles Barkley is certainly one of those who is not shy about tipping money when he is out for dinner or playing blackjack.

Charles Barkley Once Tipped $25,000

Charles Barkley has a great reputation of being a generous tipper. In fact, Barkley is not shy about giving money to homeless people as well. But Chuck was once stopped from giving money to a homeless man by Michael Jordan.

While MJ may have stopped Barkley from giving money to a homeless person, His Airness can’t be everywhere Charles goes. In an interview, Barkley was once asked about the biggest tip that he ever gave, and Barkley gave an honest answer to the question.

(Starts at 0:12)

“I think it’s important when you’re successful. The waiters, the waitresses, the blackjack dealers. I think it’s important. They work extremely hard, they don’t get a great salary. I think the more successful you are, the more you should tip. I truly believe that.”

Barkley added, “I’ve never went overboard. I’ve tipped $25,000 before. I won about $700,000, I was playing blackjack. I probably should have tipped more, to be honest. But I thought that was pretty generous because when you lose money, they don’t give you any back.”

Tipping $25,000 is no small feat and even though Barkley won about $700,000 as he mentioned had he not won that much money, he wouldn’t have gotten any back from the blackjack dealer. Either way, Barkley remains one of the most generous tippers associated with the NBA.
