Charles Barkley didn’t mince his words when he weighed in on the Donovan Mitchell and Dillon Brooks altercation.
The former NBA star called it a dirty play, something that most pundits and fans will agree to. The altercation sparked off when Brooks took his shot at Mitchell after his foul by swinging at the Cavaliers star’s groin. In response, an enraged Mitchell tossed the ball at him before the two jumped up to take each other on.
And Barkley wasn’t having any of it. Speaking on TNT’s “Inside the NBA,” he said both had to go while further adding:

“You can’t be out here committing loose ball fouls. That was just a dirty play. I like the kid’s toughness, but you can’t go around punching people. C’mon, man. That was a cheap shot. Period.”
This was agreed by the rest of the crew, although Kenny Smith did give Brooks the benefit of the doubt.
The skirmish saw Brooks receive a flagrant-2, and both players were ejected from the game.

Mitchell was in no mood to forgive Brooks for his actions, and while they both paid the price for the unruly incident, he did give the Grizzlies star a piece of his mind.
Speaking to the media in the aftermath of the Cavaliers’ 128-113 win, Mitchell said he had been getting the better of Brooks for some time now.
“Him and I have had our personal battles for years. Quite frankly, I’ve been busting his a** for years. Playoffs. Regular season. The one time he does an alright job on me, he decides to fo something like that. There’s no place for that in the game.”
Safe to say, the two players will have a score to settle if they meet another time before the end of the season.
It goes without saying that Barkley was right in his thoughts about the incident. While Brooks has been one of the players whose gritty defense has been a hallmark, he could make note of the analyst’s thoughts and have a better approach in the games that follow.
