As a 9x All-Star, 2x Scoring Champ, and former NBA MVP, Russell Westbrook has a resume that can stack up against the best.
But until he captures that elusive title, there will always be. sense that he has fallen short.
In a segment on First Things First, Chris Broussard spoke about what it would mean for Russ if he won a Chip with the Lakers next season.
“If Russ wins a championship it goes from, ‘What a great individual player, what a great athlete, what a spectacle’ to, ‘Man, this dude is one of the greatest players we have ever seen!’” Broussard says.
It’s pretty tough to determine the legacy of a player who is still active in the league. As much as we want to judge Westbrook and his career, there are still pages to be written in the storybook of his career.
So far, through 13 seasons, Westbrook has found individual success without very much team success. Whether it was with Kevin Durant, Paul George, or James Harden, he was never able to find the right situation, and it has really taken a toll on the public’s overall perception of him.
But if he’s able to finally break that cycle, and wins a Championship, people will be singing a different tune and his legacy will forever be changed for the better.
So, what does it mean for Russ? Simply put, a lot rides on this season and the next few to come. This is his best, and maybe last, chance to change how he’s remembered in basketball history.
