Usually, Jayson Tatum gets most of the credit for the success of the Boston Celtics over the last few years. But alongside Tatum, Jaylen Brown has played an equally important role in the success of the Celtics.
He has developed into a great #2 option on a championship contender team. In the 2021-22 NBA season, Brown helped the franchise finally make an NBA Finals appearance.
But looking at Brown’s game, does it remind you of another NBA player? A certain Tracy McGrady? Brown’s playstyle is certainly identical to that of NBA Hall of Famer T-Mac.
Even renowned basketball shooting coach Chris “Lethal Shooter” Matthews agrees with that notion. Chris talked about this topic in an interview with Mikey Domagala and had nothing but praise for the 25-year-old Celtics star.

“That’s a huge comparison. I can definitely see the comparison with the athleticism, with the jumpshot, with the ability to hang in the air. T-Mac scoring ability was next level. You know, T-Mac was one of those players that can score 25 points in a quarter and Jaylen Brown is starting to show those characteristics of basically piling up points. So I can definitely see that characteristic and I can definitely see him taking his offensive game to the next level.”
Brown’s ability to rack up points on any given night is simply great. But at the same time, he is still lacking in terms of being consistent. As we saw in Game 5 of the 2022 NBA Finals, Brown and Tatum both sort of disappeared during the fourth quarter of the game, which played a crucial role in the Celtics losing the game.
Regardless, the superstar duo still has more positives about their game than the negatives. And T-Mac recently acknowledged that by saying that he believes JB and JT are way better than him when he was with the Toronto Raptors. But can the duo help the Celtics force a Game 7? We will find out very soon.
