It is normal to think that once someone makes it big in the NBA that, they’re set for life, but that’s not always the case. We have unfortunately seen some stars of years past lose their way in life and end up with almost nothing, which is always a sad sight.

CJ McCollum doesn’t plan to go that route, and he has been building up quite an impressive investment portfolio. He recently sat down with Forbes for an interview where he spoke about his investing methods and how proud he is of the diversity.

“For me, it’s about building out a healthy portfolio. I’m in about 30 alternative investments right now. It’s about education first. My financial advisor and I pick an area every year that we want to learn about and get a mentor in that space. … I’ve gone through the rigors of learning first and then investing.”

“I’m in restaurant franchising… land acquisitions… residential housing… blockchain, crypto… NBA top shot… gaming… fanatics… pharmaceutical… hedge funds and private equity. Obviously, I’m in the wine space… I’m most proud of the diversity. I’m most proud of the real estate because that’s a way to attain generational wealth.”

McCollum is the president of the Player’s Association, so he clearly is a pretty smart individual. With such good and diverse investments, he has put himself and his family in a great position for the future. He is obviously not the only one who has made great investments, as someone like Shaquille O’Neal has quite an impressive and diverse portfolio as well.

CJ McCollum Spoke On Owning A Piece Of The Trail Blazers After Retirement

While McCollum is thriving with the New Orleans Pelicans, he will always be remembered for his time with the Portland Trail Blazers. That is where he made a name for himself while playing alongside Damian Lillard. CJ was recently asked about potentially owning a piece of the franchise with Lillard but said it’s not something they have discussed.

He did, however, state that every NBA player would like to own a team. If McCollum hits the jackpot with these investments of his, he could find himself in a great position to own a piece of the franchise in the future.
