As an 8x All-Star, 4x All-NBA player, and 1x champion, there is no question that Anthony Davis is one of the best players in basketball. For a while, most fans and experts considered Davis a true tier-A type of player who could lead a team to a title as the top player every night. But now, after years of up-and-down play from Davis, there are questions about how long he can sustain an MVP-level of play.
Speaking on ‘The Herd’ after AD’s 11-point stinker on Thursday, Colin Cowherd laid into the star big man and explained that he might not be one of those guys who can deliver on a regular basis.
“With AD, is he physically capable of being the man every night? He’s not. This is his 11th year in the league. There’s things you can do to alter or improve a quarterback but you can’t make him taller, there are ceilings. And I think there is a passion ceiling and an intensity ceiling to AD’s personality and his body. You’re not gonna get 70 games, you’re not gonna get 65 games, you’re not gonna get 20 straight great playoff games. That’s not who he is.”

It’s been a double-sided story for Davis this season, and especially in the playoffs. For every great and dominant game he has, he follows it up with a dud or injury scare that threatens the entire playoff run.
So far, thanks to the heroics of LeBron James and other players, the Lakers have been able to get by with this inconsistency but how long can they survive like this given who they are currently facing?
As we all say on Thursday, the Warriors will be a tough out this year and Anthony Davis is going to need to do better than 11 points to push his team past the finish line.
Can AD Finally Take Full Control Of The Series?
At his best, Davis is nothing short of amazing and it’s when the Lakers look their best. On Thursday, Davis was limited in a major way and there is a feeling that Davis must respond in a big way for Game 3.
“I took all the same shots I took in Game 1. Just missed ’em. Elbow jumpers. Pocket passes to the floater. Same exact looks,” said Davis. “Didn’t shoot no shot that I didn’t shoot in Game 1. Just missed ’em. That’s all. Like Bron said, they made adjustments. Shot the ball extremely well from three. So, we’ll be better. I’ll be better [at] making those shots. Get back home on our home floor and try to take care of business.”
At this point, there’s no point in worrying about the future if you’re the Lakers. They have a chance to do something special right now and if they can just get Anthony Davis to his full potential, they could really put on something special.
