Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors stood tall at the end of the 2021-22 NBA season as the champions of the world after their 4-2 series win over the Boston Celtics in the Finals. In a year where a lot of teams were earmarked to win the title throughout the season, the Warriors showed remarkable consistency to keep winning their important games and a 4th championship since 2015.

Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Andre Iguodala have joined LeBron James as active players with the most individual titles (4). Naturally, Curry’s achievement means he is being compared to James more often than not this week.

Colin Cowherd weighed in on the argument that has dominated basketball discourse for years and said that the difference between LeBron and Steph is the same distance Jayson Tatum and Luka Doncic currently have from Curry, signifying that Curry has a ‘Grand Canyon’ of accomplishments to make up for compared to James.

“You gonna tell me you wanna put Jayson Tatum and Luka in the same club as LeBron? You’ve gotta have a VIP room upstairs with only LeBron in it. The gap between Steph and Tatum is the Grand Canyon, the gap between LeBron and Steph is the Grand Canyon. You can’t just be throwing guys in the there because they have back-to-back really nice years and they’re All-Stars,” Cowherd said. “There’s a lot of movies with movie stars, there’s one Tom Cruise.”

Curry may be making a serious push towards the status LeBron has earned over his career. Championship rings are the great leveler in all-time debates, and Steph has the same number of rings as LeBron after this year’s win.

LeBron smokes Curry in most career statistics, which is unsurprising considering his quest to overcome Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and become the league’s all-time leading scorer. If he can win another title and make sure Steph doesn’t, he secures his position, but another title for Steph could make this a real conversation.
