Damian Lillard is going to be one of the biggest talking points in the week between the end of the NBA Draft and the start of free agency on July 1. The Blazers star has to decide whether he is willing to compete alongside Scoot Henderson or be moved to a contending situation.

With many believing that Lillard will be taking the next week to make his decision, Chris Haynes reported that Lillard hasn’t indicated anything to the Blazers on draft night, having no communication with the franchise over possible future moves.

“Damian Lillard has not had any recent communication with the Portland Trail Blazers involving the draft, free agency, or his future, league sources tell NBA on TNT and Bleacher Report.”

Either this is Lillard respecting the Blazers’ process or a reflection of an internal decision he has already made. He made it clear he wanted them to make win-now trades, so discussing their draft picks would make no sense after he directed them to make moves. The end may be upon us for Dame time in Portland.

Providing Relief To All Sides

There is little use in trying to continue what is becoming an increasingly strained relationship. Personally, the Blazers can be competitive even with both Lillard and Henderson sharing the floor. It’s definitely worth a shot if other pieces around the team are moved to further optimize their supercharged backcourt.

The uncertainty about how Scoot will perform as a rookie is going to plague Lillard from being completely okay with that arrangement going forward. He can go wherever he wants if he just asks, and it seems we’re coming closer to him making that request.
