After pouring in 23 points and 9 rebounds in 32 minutes, Anthony Davis encountered yet another injury scare — this time involving his head. Late in the fourth quarter, with the game likely already out of reach, Davis was hit by Kevon Looney’s arm under the rim and had to be taken out in a wheelchair after the game.

By all accounts, the star big man wasn’t right after the collision, and Lakers fans have been worried ever since the scary moment went down. Fortunately, head coach Darvin Ham was quick to provide a positive update on Davis and his spirits after another set back.

“Obviously everybody saw that he took a shot to the head. I just checked in on him, he seems to be doing really good already. That’s the status of it right now.”

This was all Darvin had to say on the subject, and it may not be the best news, but it’s certainly a sigh of relief if you’re a Lakers fan. If Davis is really okay, and just shaken up from the hit to the face, a full day of rest should help him recover and return to form.

Of course, things also swing the other way if Davis is forced to enter some kind of concussion safety protocol.

Injuries Are The Lakers’ Biggest Kryptonite

Sadly, injuries have been nothing new for the Lakeshow. Whether it’s LeBron, AD, or someone else, it seems there is always something holding them back or keeping their best lineups from playing.

These playoffs have been a rarity in that the Lakers have stayed mostly intact, but now that’s in jeopardy if Davis is compromised for Game 6. Now, even if they do advance, there are going to be major questions about the team’s durability going forward.

“It’s kinda the way they’re gonna have to win, treat every game like a March Madness, one-and-done, play with urgency. Can they beat a good team like Memphis four times? I think they can in the first playoff series, but I don’t think they can extend it to a second playoff series, or a third. I just think you’re asking too much of an old guy and an often hurt guy in Anthony Davis,” said Colin Cowherd early in this postseason.

Only time will tell how this ultimately ends for the Lakers, but they’ll need AD at his best if they want any shot at the title this year. If he goes down now, after all this team has been through, it would be quite a bitter blow to what has been a miraculous turnaround.
