Derrick Rose has been struggling to find a spot in the New York Knicks rotation in recent games. The talented point guard landed in New York, ready to have a second chance with the Knicks and help them compete for important things.
So far, that hasn’t happened, but Rose isn’t to blame here. The Knicks have been a bad team for a while now, and even though they made the playoffs as a top-4 seed in the 2020-21 NBA season, that was just a fluke.
Now, D-Rose has had several DNPs over the past couple of games, which has raised eyebrows around the league and sparked rumors about a potential trade for the youngest MVP award winner. Rose, however, isn’t bothered about any of that.
Derrick Rose Isn’t Bothered By Not Playing Too Much Recently
Talking with Stefan Bondy of the NY Daily News, the point guard opened up on this. He stated that as long as the Knicks are winning, he won’t have anything bad to say about his situation, saying that he’s happy for Deuce McBride.
“I can’t complain when we’re winning games,” Rose said. “If we were losing, I’d probably be mad. But we’re winning and playing basketball so I really can’t complain.”
As usual, trade questions come up, but Rose isn’t paying too much attention to that. Although he wants to stay in New York, he knows things can change.
“I don’t know. I really don’t know. I want to stay here but if things switch it may have to be somewhere else.”
“I don’t know [how far my career will go]. But I feel good though,” Rose added. “I want to be able to walk away whenever I want to walk away. And smile while I’m doing it. And right now, it’s like, who knows? As long as I can move around, that’s all people want to see. See how many games I play. It’s not about stats anymore. They just want to see how many games I play.”
He added that he has nothing but love for Deuce McBride, and their relationship has grown up over the past year.
“I haven’t. If we were losing, probably. But I like winning. I’m a winner. I like being around a locker room where the vibrations are just winning,” Rose said. “And they got Deuce playing ahead of me. I can’t hate on that young man. I had him over for Thanksgiving last year. Real cool with his family members. I love the way he’s playing. I would feel a way if I was hating in any type of fashion. So I’m happy for him.”
Rose has been linked with a move to the Dallas Mavericks in recent weeks, but right now, that’s unlikely to happen. Perhaps that’s what he needs to recover his former level of play. This is only speculation, but fans would love to see the Chicago Bulls legend on the Mavs.
