Draymond Green and Dillon Brooks’ rivalry has spilled over beyond their matchup tonight where the Grizzlies managed to beat the Warriors 110-131.

After harsh pre-game comments from Draymond, Brooks has gotten multiple chances to respond. The first came after the game where he called Draymond’s podcast cute, but a far more explosive shot came after the game.

The Grizzlies swingman also called himself a better player than Draymond, despite having an inferior stat line of 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists to Draymond’s 16 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals, also on better shooting percentages.

Brooks is clearly referring to Draymond punching out Jordan Poole in practice in the summer of 2022. Everyone has done a good job of moving on from that incident, but Brooks has taken a very public shot by bringing up a topic that people had been shying away from.

Green will definitely take this personally and their back-and-forths are definitely not over yet.

Did Brooks Go Too Far?

Within the NBA community, there are unwritten rules. One of those rules also includes players speaking to the media about what goes on in the locker room. Naturally, players are expected to protect their own teammates but they also usually avoid commenting on locker-room situations around the league.

No opposing player had made a comment against Poole or Draymond for their dust-up in the summer until now. Dillon may feel justified in doing what he did because Green’s podcast comments did imply that the Grizzlies shouldn’t want Brooks if they want to be title contenders. A low blow for a low blow.

For fans, battles like these are really fun. A playoff matchup between these teams is desperately needed and has a strong likelihood of happening either as the 2-7 matchup or the 3-6 matchup.
