Memphis’ Dillon Brooks is set to miss time once again after assessing his 18th tech of the season in last night’s win over the Dallas Mavericks.

Brooks, who has made a living for earning those kinds of calls, will sit for at least one game and is expected to accumulate at least a few more before the season’s end.

In the NBA, players are only allowed 15 technical fouls over the course of a season. Any tech added after 15 will automatically lead to a suspension.

It’s pretty rare for players to reach that mark, however, and the ones that do usually see it in April during the last few days of the season.

In Brooks’ case, though, he got his 16th in the first week of March, and it really says a lot about the edge he plays with on the court.

Is Dillon Brooks The NBA’s Best Trash Talker?

Love him or hate him, it’s impossible to deny that Dillon Brooks is good at his job. As an enforcer and premier defender for the Grizzlies, he’s great at being a distraction for opponents and getting underneath their skin.

“You just look at the numbers,” said Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins. “You watch the film, the stats about what opponents average against him, field goal percentages, point totals… I mean this guy absolutely cares about defense, wants to set a tone for us, (and) be a leader in that department for us. The numbers don’t lie, the film doesn’t lie. So, I think it’s a no-brainer that he should be an All-Defensive player.”

Of course, Brooks sees himself as more than a role player. He wants to be the next Draymond Green and hopes to have the ability to create his own shot like Kyrie Irving or Kobe Bryant.

“He plays the game at a different pace. He uses both hands, mid-range God. And that’s where I want to be at one day, be able to shoot the ball more,” said Brooks.

With the story of this season is still being written, we don’t yet know how it will end for Brooks and the Grizz this season.

But they have found an identity as a hard-nosed and determined group of guys who aren’t afraid of anyone in the NBA. With that type of mentality, it’s only a matter of time before they make a real run in the postseason.
