Julius Erving is one of the greatest NBA players in history. Erving was in the NBA during the 70s and 80s and was one of the most dominant figures in the league during that time. His stint with the Philadelphia 76ers was very successful, winning an NBA championship during that time.

Erving was initially part of the ABA, playing for the Virginia Squires and New York Nets before he eventually entered the NBA and joined the Philadelphia 76ers. He won 2 ABA championships before departing the league to become part of the 76ers, where he won a league MVP and NBA championship.

The most notable thing about Erving’s game was his dunking ability. Dr. J is considered one of the greatest dunkers of all time, and his name still comes up when fans discuss the most iconic dunks in the history of the league.

But when Erving was asked if he could still dunk at the age of 71, he had a hilarious response. During an interview, Erving spoke about how the dunk was his signature move and how much he enjoyed dunking during his career.

When the interviewer asked if he could still dunk, he said that he is only dunking donuts now, a reference to the popular donut franchise ‘Dunkin Donuts’.

“My last dunk was when I was 63. It’s been a while. I’m Dunkin Donuts now.”

Even after retiring, Dr. J continued to stay active in the basketball world. In 1992, he and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar played a 1 vs. 1 exhibition game dubbed ‘Clash Of The Legends’, which Kareem won, despite Dr. J dunking on him during the game.

Upon entering the league in 1976, Erving quickly established himself as one of the best in the league. by 1981, he was named the NBA MVP. 2 years later, he would win his first NBA title with the 76ers, defeating Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, and the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1983 NBA Finals.

While Dr. J only won 1 NBA championship, he is still considered one of the most legendary figures across the league. He was a consistent All-Star and All-NBA player and played some of the most exciting basketball in the 76ers’ franchise history.
