Draymond Green is one of the best defenders in the league, and there’s no doubt that he’s the “heart and soul” of the Golden State Warriors. He’s an extremely passionate player, but there are times when that gets him into trouble with the officials.
As of right now, Draymond Green is on the verge of getting a one-game suspension, as he is only a few technical fouls away. When speaking to the media, Draymond Green claimed that he’s likely going to “get suspended anyways”, adding that there’s nothing he can do about that. Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports relayed the news.
After Wednesday night, Green is only four technical fouls away from a one-game suspension. Does that concern him?
Here’s what he had to say when asked about his technical fouls inching closer to the limit.
“I’m gonna get suspended for a game anyway because of what’s happened in the past with referees,” Green said. “So you stop talking to them and you still get techs. So I’m gonna get suspended anyways, it is what it is.
“There’s not anything that I can do about it.”
The Golden State Warriors will likely hope that Draymond Green manages to avoid this suspension. They need a win in every game possible due to their slow start, and Draymond Green obviously gives them a better chance of winning every single night.
Draymond Green Once Claimed Referees Officiate Him Differently
We have seen Draymond Green get in trouble with the officials plenty of times, and it seems as though Draymond Green has an explanation for why that happens. Previously, he claimed that the referees treat him differently from other players, pointing out an instance where Evan Mobley got lesser punishment for doing something similar to what he did in the 2016 Finals.
“There’s Draymond Green rules,” Green said. “There’s 100 percent Draymond Green rules. Evan Mobley did the same exact thing and kicked LeBron in the head, ain’t nobody talking about wanting to kick him out, ain’t nobody talking like it was [on] purpose.”
Everyone should be officiated evenly, even someone that often toes the line like Draymond Green. It will be interesting to see how he will be officiated in the playoffs, where referees generally allow the defenders to get away with more.
Hopefully, we see Draymond Green receive a fair whistle in the future. However, even with all of the perceived bad calls on him, he still manages to be an elite defender, which is nothing short of impressive.
