Dwyane Wade On Mario Chalmers: “When He Had To Give The Ball Up To Me And Bron Down The Stretch, You Can See The Hesitation In Him. Like, ‘Man, I Really Wanna Shoot This.’”

Dwyane Wade and Udonis Haslem had a lot of time to remember their stint with the Miami Heat. The two Heat legends remembered several things they lived while they played together in South Beach, but one of the most interesting stories they shared involved another former teammate, Mario Chalmers.

Wade and Haslem remembered how Chalmers’ stubbornness sometimes got him during the last minutes of the game. They recalled how the point guard used to tell LeBron James and Wade that he was ready to take a game-winning shot.

This Chalmers story 😂

“When he had to give the ball up to me and Bron down the stretch, you can see the hesitation in him. … Like, ‘Man, I really wanna shoot this.’”

“I think it was you and ‘Bron (LeBron James),” Haslem said. “Ya’ll took a game-winning shot, we missed it, we went into overtime. I think Rio (Chalmers) tapped you or ‘Bron and said, ‘I was open.’”

After that, Wade said he was always showing a desire to take the shot before passing the ball to him and Bron.

“Yo, he (Chalmers) wanted it,” Wade said. “When he had to get a ball up to me and ‘Bron down the stretch, you could see a little hesitation in him before he passed it like, ‘Man, I really want to shoot this.’”

In the end, Haslem paid his respect to Chalmers, who currently plays for Greek side AEK Athens.

“Man listen,” he said. “I’m taking Rio down the fox hole seven days a week and twice on Sunday.”

After he played 66 games with the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2017/18 season, Chalmers joined Virtus Bologna in Italy before arriving in Greece. The 33-year-old was the Heat’s point guard for a big chunk of their big 3 era, helping his team win two championships and reach four NBA Finals.
