Chauncey Billups: “If Detroit Pistons Got Melo, We Would’ve Won Three Championships”

The NBA’s hiatus has opened up the door for some of its players to reach out to their fans via social media, reminiscing and telling stories to keep their supporters engaged and entertained while there’s no basketball around.

That’s why Dwyane Wade and Carmelo Anthony teamed up during an Instagram live session to discuss several matters in front of their fans, from an untold story about LeBron James saving Carmelo’s life to what could’ve been of Melo’s career if he had gone 2nd overall instead of 3rd back in 2003.

Anthony claimed that he would’ve had won multiple Championships already if he had gone to Detroit instead of the Denver Nuggets. “I would’ve had, uh, two, maybe two or three rings,” Anthony claimed. The Pistons, however, picked Darko Milicic – now considered as one of the biggest busts in NBA Draft history.

While Melo’s statement could’ve been perceived as a reach, he’s got a point. As a matter of fact, even Milicic won a Championship ring with them during his rookie season, even though he barely contributed to their winning cause.

That’s why Chauncey Billups, who was one of the leaders of that deadly Pistons squad, couldn’t help but to agree with Anthony’s words, adding that they would’ve won three Championships had they gone with the Small Forward out of Syracuse University:

“If [Detroit] got Melo, we would’ve won three championships,” Mr. Big Shot claimed, as reported by Bart & Hann.

Sadly for Melo, he’s still pursuing his first Championship before calling it a day after 17 seasons in the NBA, something that’s unlikely to happen unless he decides to ring chase and join a Championship contender next season.

Milicic, on the other hand, hasn’t even been around the league since 2012 and was never able to live up to the expectations that come with being the second overall pick.
