The 2003 NBA Draft class is considered one of the greatest of all time. The amount of talent that came from that draft class is absolutely astonishing. But how different would the draft order be 20 years later? Shannon Sharpe asked Dwyane Wade the same question, and he had a surprising answer.

During an episode of Club Shay Shay, Dwyane Wade was tasked with redrafting the top 5 of the 2003 NBA Draft class. Both agreed that LeBron James would go number one overall still.

“Where I should have went – To Denver. Melo deserved the 2nd Pick. Chris Bosh was the 4th Pick but when it comes to bigs, it’s about what team needs that kind of big. Toronto needed him. Miami Heat needed a big, they would’ve drafted Chris Bosh if Toronto didn’t take him. I wouldn’t have went to the Heat. If you do it all over. I would probably go 3rd to Denver.”

In the original 2003 draft, Darko Milicic was picked second overall ahead of Anthony, Wade, and Chris Bosh. In hindsight, that is one of the worst draft decisions of all time, as drafting any of the other three superstars from the league would have allowed Detroit to build a dynasty, as they won the NBA championship that season.

Dwyane Wade Became A Legend In The NBA

Wade would win two more NBA championships in 2012 and 2013, alongside LeBron James. Wade also spoke about James’ potentially retiring this season, claiming that he didn’t expect the King to walk away from the game. Wade would know LeBron very well, as the two played together for 4 years in Miami.

Dwyane Wade ended up being the second-best player from the 2003 draft class. In fact, he was the first star player from the draft class to win an NBA championship, doing so in 2006 with Shaquille O’Neal and the Miami Heat, even winning Finals MVP for his incredible performances. During those Finals, Wade averaged 34.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists.

Wade will be remembered as one of the greatest to ever do it. And regardless of where he got drafted, the Miami Heat will forever be grateful for him, as he is their best player ever.
