• Dwyane Wade understands why Damian Lillard wants to leave the Portland Trail Blazers

• Wade says Kevin Garnett and LeBron James did the same when they wanted to win titles

• Lillard requested a trade earlier and only wants to play for the Miami Heat

There’s still no confirmation whether Damian Lillard’s request to get traded to the Miami Heat will be fulfilled or not.

But franchise legend Dwyane Wade understands Damian Lillard’s thought process behind asking to join the Heat. D-Wade says Kevin Garnett and LeBron James did the same at one point in their respective careers.

“Dame has been trying to accomplish his career the way that he wants to see it go,” Wade said in an interview with Bobby Krivitsky of Sports Illustrated. “And he has been wanting to see it go in Portland. That’s why he’s there. And so that’s why he’s been there.”

Wade added: “And there’s always gonna be talk about what someone should do. Kevin Garnett did this; this guy did this; LeBron went and did this. Dame has to do what Dame wants to do and understand that he gets one of these careers. You get one shot at this. And how does he want to see it go, how does he want to see these next, I don’t know, five to 10 years ago; however much longer he’s got. I don’t even know what year he’s in.”

At the end of the day, Wade wants everyone to respect Lillard’s decision. Why? Because it’s his career.

“And that’s something that we’ll all have to wait and see. And everybody has to respect whatever that decision is. And whether you like it or not, you have to respect that the decision will be all what Dame wants to see for Dame’s career and no one else’s,” the Heat legend concluded.

LeBron James joined the Miami Heat in 2010 and won two NBA Championships with the team. If Lillard gets traded to the Heat, he’ll be eyeing a similar end result. After all, the Heat have been to the NBA Finals in two out of the last four seasons.

In his 11 years with the Trail Blazers, Dame has averaged 25.2 PPG, 4.2 RPG, and 6.7 APG. Unfortunately, he couldn’t reach the NBA Finals during the past 11 seasons.

Damian Lillard Could Expand His List Of Teams If His Trade Request Goes Unanswered

It’s been a few weeks since Damian Lillard has requested a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers. While Lillard has expressed his desire to play for the Heat, things are stuck in the mud regarding that deal.

Keeping that in mind, a new report has emerged that says the 33-year-old could expand the list of his preferred destinations if the Trail Blazers do not fulfill his request.

Lillard averaged 32.2 PPG, 4.8 RPG, and 7.3 APG in the 2022-23 NBA season, so it’s obvious that the Trail Blazers want a hefty package in return. The Heat are one of the best-run franchises in the league, so they do not give in to the Trail Blazers’ huge demand.
