• Charles Oakley taught Rookie Scottie Pippen the pecking order for the Chicago Bulls the hard way
• Pippen was slapped in the face by Oakley
• Scottie Pippen was on the bench for his entire rookie season with the Bulls
Every team in the NBA has a pecking order, and so did the Chicago Bulls when Scottie Pippen was drafted in the 1987 draft. At the time, Charles Oakley was one of the leaders of the team.
During Pippen’s rookie year, he was taught a lesson by Oakley. The viral clip shows Oakley grabbing Pippen by his collar and slapping the rookie multiple times.
Both Oakley and Pippen were smiling throughout the video, so there were obviously no hard feelings between them. By the way, Pippen wasn’t the only player that Oakley slapped during his time in the league.
Speaking of Pippen as a rookie, he averaged 7.9 PPG, 3.8 RPG, and 2.1 APG. Scottie played 79 games in the 1987-88 season, but he wasn’t awarded even a single start throughout the season.
Charles Oakley Believes Michael Jordan Could Have Won Six Titles Without Scottie Pippen
Scottie Pippen was Robin to Michael Jordan’s Batman during their time with the Chicago Bulls. The duo led the Bulls to six NBA Championships.
However, former NBA player Charles Oakley believes Michael Jordan could have won six titles even without Scottie Pippen on the team.
“I think Mike could have won without Scottie. He has said that many times but I think Scottie, whatever you say you gotta live with it and some things he said and things he did… I think Scottie can’t win the argument that he’s better than Michael. He said that a lot of times that he’s better than Michael.”
Pippen recently called Jordan a horrible player before his arrival. It has sparked a lot of debates, and most have berated Pippen for his terrible take. Pippen and Jordan were inseparable during their playing days, but their friendship has been ruined over the years, mostly due to Scottie’s terrible takes on his former teammate.
