Evan Turner is coming under fire on social media over his controversial remark about Toronto Raptors head coach Darko Rajakovic. In a now-deleted comment on Instagram, Turner said Rajakovic should have let his assistant rant about the officials after the game against the Los Angeles Lakers because he has an accent.

“You gotta let your assistant coaches do the rant when ‘you have accent.'”

Raptors guard Dennis Schroder immediately reacted to it and he was nice enough to only tell Turner to chill, as he could have blasted him for that. The former NBA player, though, was still oblivious to the fact that he made a comment that is viewed as xenophobic.

“I’m just saying lol. Buddy ain’t move not one mountain with this rant. Keep doing yo thing, bro! Happy for you.”

Eventually with more and more backlash coming his way, Turner deleted the comment. It’s clear, though, that he doesn’t believe he said anything wrong there, based on his responses to some X accounts that were calling him out.

This certainly isn’t a good look for Turner. What makes this even more absurd is that oversized teeth and an overbite caused him to have a speech impediment that required therapy. Considering that, you’d have thought he’d be the last person to make a comment like that.

NBA Fans Blasted Evan Turner

While Schroder went easy on Turner, NBA fans certainly did not. He got blasted for his comment by them.

One called Turner a loser.

A fan said Turner sounds worse than any accent.

One said Turner is a xenophobe.

A fan said Turner is a garbage human being.

One called out Turner for hating on foreign players as well.

Safe to say fans weren’t pulling any punches here. Some might have gone too far, but Turner isn’t doing himself any favors by refusing to admit he made a mistake.

Darko Rajakovic’s Rant About The Referees

Turner’s comment sounds even more ridiculous when you consider Rajakovic articulated himself fairly well during his rant about the officials. The Raptors head coach was enraged with the referees following the loss to the Lakers and the clip went viral instantly.

“How is it possible that Scottie Barnes, who is an All-Star caliber player in this league, he goes every single time to the rim with force without flopping, he gets two free throws for the whole game. How is that possible? How will you explain that to me? They had to win tonight. If that’s the case, just let us know so we don’t show up for the game. That was not fair tonight. It’s not happening for the first time with us. Scottie Barnes is an All-Star and will be the face of the league, what’s happening right now this season, it’s complete crap.”

To go with his anger at his team not getting any calls, Rajakovic was also very upset about the Lakers getting 23 free throws in the fourth quarter and 36 in total for the game. A hefty fine will certainly be coming his way after those remarks, but I don’t think the Serbian will care too much about that.

What this rant will do, is show his players that he has their back. The Raptors have had a difficult start to the season under him, sporting a 15-22 record, but incidents like this can bring a group closer together.
