The 2023 NBA Draft Lottery is tomorrow and will decide the future for the 14 franchises waiting to see where their pick will fall and whether they can jump up to No. 1 and land unicorn prospect Victor Wembanyama.

Noted Portland Trail Blazers reporter Sean Highkin reported that executives would be willing to give Wembanyama a max contract without seeing him play.

“A front-office person told me today at the combine that if Victor Wembanyama had an Embiid-like multiple-season injury before the draft, not only would every team still take him #1, they’d be willing to max him out on his second contract without seeing him play.”

Joel Embiid missed his first few seasons in the NBA due to injury but has progressed into becoming a league MVP. Philadelphia are happy they stuck it out with Embiid and other teams around the league would be willing to do the same for Wembanyama, if not more.

Will Victor Wembanyama Live Up To The Hype?

Whichever franchise lands the No. 1 pick will feel like they’ve gotten a lottery ticket back to NBA relevance. Victor Wembanyama is a 7’4″ center with guard-like abilities and a shooting touch. His lack of physicality will take a while to translate, but his soft skills at that size will make him a nearly-impossible player to guard.

The only challenge that scouts have identified with Wembanyama is his physique and whether it can hold up through the grind of an 82-game NBA season against some o the most athletic and fit players in the world. That’s the only barrier to success for Wemby, as his mobility at that size will always guarantee an NBA future for him.
