Despite a highly improbable run to the NBA Finals, the Miami Heat did not accomplish their ultimate goal this season, and you can expect the front office to be aggressive in finding ways to improve. This summer, as the Heat assess their options, they may want to take a look at Tyler Herro and re-think where he fits in their long-term plans.
The young guard missed all but one game in the postseason this year, and the Heat managed to play better without him thanks to other guys like Caleb Martin, Gabe Vincent, and (of curse) Jimmy Butler stepping up to fill the gaps. According to one former executive, Miami is actually better without Herro due to his ball-stopping tendencies on offense.
“He needs the ball in his hands,” a former NBA executive told Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus. “They probably play better as a team without him. Lowry is Lowry. Vincent is Vincent. Maybe they’re not as productive with Herro. Not to mention, he’s a hole in their defense.”

Herro is a strong shooter and brilliant scorer who has proven himself useful for the Heat multiple times since joining in 2019. But recently, fans have begun to notice some glaring flaws in Herro’s game, especially on defense, where he has a tendency to give up points.
So, given everything, it’s not surprising that the Heat are going this route. But the question is, who could the Heat get for Herro and would it be enough to secure a title before the window closes for good?
Heat Expected To Pursue Damian Lillard
After falling short in the Finals yet again, there’s nowhere else for the Heat to turn but the trade market. With their need for another star abundantly clear, they have been tied to point guard Damian Lillard as a potential landing spot this summer.
“The team I’m watching is the Miami Heat,” Brian Windhorst said on First Take. “The Heat are ready to go to their next star window. This is what they do. The Heat hunts stars. His time would probably match Jimmy Butler in terms of age.”
Of course, Lillard continues to reaffirm his loyalty to Portland and there’s no way to know for sure if the Blazers will make him available this summer. Whether it’s Dame or some other big-name target, the Heat are going to test the market on Tyler Herro and don’t be surprised if they pull the trigger on a deal if the price is right.
