  • Former NBA exec says Miami’s offer is the best they will get for Lillard
  • Miami’s best offer includes Tyler Herro, picks, and two young prospects
  • No other teams have made an offer for Dame

It’s been over a month since Damian Lillard’s initial trade request, but the Trail Blazers have made no strides in their attempts to strike a deal and it could stay that way for a while. Speaking on the Lowe Post podcast, former NBA executive Bobby Marks provided the latest update on the situation that came with some bad news for the Blazers:

“If you’re Portland you have to come to a realization that Herro, the two young players, and draft picks are going to be better than what you’ll get,” said Marks.

The best Miami Heat trade package is some combination of Tyler Herro, Nikola Jovic, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and a handful of future picks. In most situations, the package would be enough to finalize a trade but for a guy like Damian Lillard, “palatable” is the best that anyone has called the offer.

Unfortunately for GM Joe Cronin, that trade package might end up being the best deal on the table by the time it’s all said and done. As the only team on Lillard’s list of desired landing spots, no other teams have been bold enough to even make an offer.

Then again, with at least three years remaining on Lillard’s contract, there’s nothing stopping the Blazers from waiting this out until next summer or even beyond.

What Is The Holdup In Portland?

After 11 years of hard work for the Blazers, you can’t blame Damian Lillard for wanting a change of scenery. The team failed to qualify for the play-in tournament last season and responded by adding young rookies instead of experienced veterans.

Nevertheless, Joe Cronin is set on getting the maximum return for his franchise player, who should go for a premium price as a 7x All-Star, 7x All-NBA player, and 25-point per-game scorer for his career.

The Blazers, who are looking to rebuild after trading Lillard, are seeking a return of picks and young All-Star-level talent in return — assets that the Heat don’t currently have. The best trade asset that Miami does have (Tyler Herro) available is of no interest to the Blazers since they already have a crowded backcourt with Scoot Henderson, Anfernee Simons, and Shaedon Sharpe.

Until a third team steps up to the plate, or one of these two teams gets desperate enough, it’s going to be hard for Damian Lillard to land where he wants to go.

Damian Lillard Will Change Everything For The Heat

Last season, we saw Miami make a run to the Finals with Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Caleb Martin carrying most of the load. If you add Damian Lillard to the mix, the Heat are on par with some of the top contenders in the league.

Lillard, 33, is coming off the best season of his career with an average of 32.2 points per game on 46.3% shooting. Alongside a defensive specialist like Butler, and a coaching genius like Erik Spoelstra, Dame could unleash the best parts of his game in the most efficient way possible.

Regardless of the details, Damian Lillard’s arrival would shake the hierarchy of the Eastern Conference for years to come and it would position him for his best chance at a championship run.
