Giannis Antetokounmpo had an NSFW admission when expressing his desire to win more NBA championships.
The Milwaukee Bucks star was instrumental in the side winning the 2021 season, but the former MVP made it explicitly clear that he was here to win titles.
Per ClutchPoints, “Why I’m here is because I’m desperate,” he said. “I’m not as talented as Steph. I’m not as talented as KD. I’m f*****g desperate. I’m obsessed.” He further added: “I’m scared to lose what God has given me and the life that I’ve provided for my kids and my brothers and for my mom, you know? I’m scared. So I f*****G work as hard as I can because I don’t want to lose this s**t.”
The forward’s blunt admission that he’s not better than veterans Curry and Durant speaks volumes about how he’s keen to get better. However, it should be noted that Antetokounmpo is one of the most versatile modern-day players and has already been considered a generational superstar.
He also outlined how the Bucks could have been a different unit had they seen more of Khris Middleton on the floor. “I want my game to speak for itself. And as you said, it’s hard not to play with Khris [Middleton]. If we played with Khris (all season), I don’t think we have 48 wins (which is what they had at the time). I think we have 55 now. I really do believe that.”
For now, the Bucks are well on their way to the playoffs. Only time will tell if they can indeed have a repeat of their winning 2021 campaign.
Brian Windhorst Explains Why Giannis Antetokounmpo Rightfully Deserves To Be The MVP This Season
While the likes of Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid have constantly headlined sports pages as legitimate MVP candidates, Antetokounmpo is one of the names that’s been mentioned time and again.
And he had ESPN analyst and NBA Insider Brian Windhorst’s backing him to win MVP this season. “This guy does so much for his team at both ends of the court…he had my vote two weeks ago, he’s got my vote today…” he said.
“The Celtics haven’t done anything but win. The Celtics have been in the first place since October, and they’re still playing great. And they just walked down by the Bucks because Giannis is driving that train.”
The numbers are out there as well, with the forward averaging 31.5 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 5.5 assists this season.
It’s clear that he and the Bucks, with their 50-19 record in the East, will make the playoffs, but it remains to be seen if Antetokounmpo can shoulder them to another championship. Safe to say, he has the burning desire to do so.
