Gilbert Arenas has always kept it real when it comes to the things that happen behind the scenes in the NBA. From the league making moves to save its reputation or to keep players safe to making lineup decisions based solely on money.

During a recent conversation on his No Chill podcast, Arenas explained how having a millionaire salary can help players get more minutes than others who beat them in practice but earn less money.

“If I’m a guard and I came into the league, and I got like $400,000 a year and then they just paid this dude $5 million, and I’m busting his ass in practice, zero minutes, bro. I’m getting zero minutes. None of that means nothing. They’re not gonna sit $5 million for no $400,000 guy. So now you’re just sitting there, four years, you ain’t got a minute… You’re out of the league, overseas, when you killed this whole starter for four years, but because they put money behind him, that’s it.”

Gilbert has become one of the best NBA podcasters in recent times, especially with his takes on the current and old NBA era, constantly comparing LeBron James and Michael Jordan, among other things.

It’s always interesting to know the stories Arenas has to tell about the ‘dark secrets’ of the league. This is a business before anything, and having a $5 million player on the bench isn’t a good one for many teams.

That’s why some players try to prove their worth on different teams and leagues. We’ve seen many of these cases over the years, and seeing the way things are handled now, nothing will change.

Gilbert Arenas Has Talked Before About The Importance Of Having A Big Contract In The NBA

This isn’t the first time Gilbert makes these revelations. Earlier this year, he explained that somebody’s position in the draft also has an impact on their playing time. If you’re a lottery pick, and somebody else is constantly beating you in practice, that pricy rookie will get the starting spot.

Even though some will say this is unfair, that’s the way things work in the NBA. Again, this is a business, and besides winning championships, teams favor getting and saving their money before anything else.
