The NBA and its stars may seem like a united monolith from the outside looking in, but there are a lot of differences among them. Players come from a variety of backgrounds, and while some are introverted and never quite involved in any scandalous headlines, the same cannot be said for others. Throughout the league’s history, many things have happened that have stayed under wraps, and several stories are simply unknown to fans of the game.

With the advent of podcasts and long-form interviews, a lot of those stories have now started to come out. Gilbert Arenas was involved in a lot of situations of his own during his playing days, and he knows stories about other players that are as yet unheard of as well. During his time with the Wizards, for example, Arenas knew of some wild things that happened, which he shares from time to time.

Gilbert Arenas Shared The Wild Story Of How A Former Wizards Player Lost $25 Million After Being Caught By An Undercover Cop

In an interview with Vlad TV, Arenas retold the story of how a young Wizards player, hours before he was about to sign a huge deal, ended up getting caught by an undercover cop.

Gilbert Arenas: “He was like yeah, happy, he was going to celebrate. They came to terms and this is what they’re gonna sign in the morning.”

DJ Vlad: “That next morning, he was going to sign for $40 million.”

Gilbert Arenas: “A few hours later… Basically, he was gonna sign less than 14 hours later.”

DJ Vlad: “He decided to pull over, and there was a prostitute on the street, and he asked her how much. Then she turned out to be an undercover cop.”

Gilbert Arenas: “She must have been bad. To pull over, I mean you are going to the club. Listen, we teased this man.” Arenas continued saying, “It was the funniest thing. You’re talking about young kids so stuff like that is the funniest. Like how do you get in trouble for that? I didn’t know you could even get in trouble for something like that.”

This story is a prime example for young players to know that however much money they are signing for, they have to be careful with what they do. Anthony Edwards has learned this lesson very recently, too, after posting a homophobic video online. For a player to lose over 60% of their deal to a misstep like this is terrible, surely this is one of the costlier incidents in NBA history.
