Goran Dragic was part of the sign-and-trade that sent Kyle Lowry to the Miami Heat from the Toronto Raptors. Goran Dragic was one of the longest-tenured members of the Heat and had one All-Star selection during his time there. While Kyle Lowry was obviously happy to take the chance to join the Miami Heat, it seems as though Goran Dragic isn’t fond of Toronto as a destination.
The Toronto Raptors are currently in a rebuilding process, and they have lost a lot of key members from their 2019 championship run. They have decided to focus on developing their young core. Goran Dragic is 35, and it is clear that he is in the latter stages of his career. It would make sense for Dragic to want to be elsewhere, so he could be a contending team. In a recent interview, Goran Dragic stated that Toronto wasn’t his destination of choice and that he had “higher ambitions”.

It remains to be seen what happens with Goran Dragic, and whether he will get traded or bought out. Goran Dragic is a guard who can both score and facilitate, while also possessing a solid outside shot (37.3% from 3PT range in 2020-21 season). He would be a great fit on any contender who needs a good 6th man or a solid starter. There is no question that Dragic can still be a positive contributor to a winning team.
There has already been some interest towards Dragic from the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks have missed out on some big names in free agency, and perhaps Dragic is the piece that can help them take some offensive load off of Luka Doncic. Dragic and Doncic are notably teammates for the Slovenian national team. They would definitely offer Dragic a better situation in terms of winning. Regardless of where Goran Dragic ends up playing though, hopefully, it is a situation that lets him compete at the highest level.
