NBA Rumors: Dallas Mavericks Interested In Acquiring Goran Dragic

The Dallas Mavericks haven’t managed to acquire a co-star for Luka Doncic this free agency, though that doesn’t mean that they can’t improve the roster. It is still possible that they can acquire players via trade.

Kyle Lowry and Mike Conley were two names that were connected to the Dallas Mavericks ahead of the free agency, as the Mavericks were “looking to ease the burden” on Luka Doncic. While the two have already signed new deals in free agency, it is clear that a veteran point guard who could fill a similar role to Lowry or Conley could be a good addition to the Mavericks. Offensively, Luka Doncic has to handle the ball a lot for his team, so getting someone who can take some of the responsibility off his shoulders is crucial.

A name that has been linked to the Mavericks is veteran point guard Goran Dragic. Dragic was most recently traded to the Toronto Raptors in the Kyle Lowry sign-and-trade. NBA Insider Marc Stein has recently revealed that the Mavericks have already tried to acquire Goran Dragic via trade, though those efforts haven’t been fruitful as of now.

The Raptors might ultimately trade Goran Dragic after completing their sign-and-trade deal with Miami that will send Kyle Lowry to the Heat, but they have resisted external interest in Dragic thus far, league sources say. Dallas, I’m told, is among the teams that has tried to acquire him via trade and remains interested in acquiring Dragic after missing out on Lowry. Toronto appears to have other plans for now — which certainly don’t include buying him out. In the wake of Dragic’s emotional Miami exit, Dallas is obviously an appealing destination since it would team him with his fellow Slovenian Luka Doncic

Goran Dragic has notably played with Luka Doncic during their time with the Slovenian national team, so it is possible that them teaming up in the NBA would be a good idea. Goran Dragic averaged 13.4 PPG and 4.4 APG this season while shooting 37.3% from beyond the arc, which are solid numbers considering he was in a bench role. It remains to be seen whether Goran Dragic does make his way over to Dallas, but it seems as though the Mavericks are interested in adding him to the roster.
