The Boston Celtics made some moves this summer that shocked their fans. The first was getting rid of Marcus Smart for two picks and Kristaps Porzingis, and the second was letting Grant Williams leave the franchise for nothing.

Many people have wondered where the Celtics can recover after losing two of their ‘dogs’ in one summer. Williams believes the Celtics will be just fine, praising the likes of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Al Horford, and Porzingis. He spoke to Heavy Sports.

“I think they’ll have success. Me and Marcus brought the energy and grit, but at the same time, I trust and believe that their entire team has the ability to defend. They still have Al, they still have guys like Kristaps who can move his feet and block shots. Rob is one of the best defenders, if not the best shot-blocking big in the league. Then JT and JB, they’re going to lead the charge. You know, it’s important for them to step up and show that dog that they’ve always had. So even without us, I think they’ll be fine.”

Williams averaged 8.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists last season in a down year for the Celtics, which makes sense why they wanted to let him go. The team has packed salary books, so extending Grant would have cost a lot in luxury tax.

Do The Celtics Have That Dog In Them?

The Celtics are shaping up to be a fun roster. They’re adding Porzingis’ 23.2 points, 8.4 rebounds. and 2.7 assists to a team that already had Jayson Tatum average 30.1 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists, and Jaylen Brown’s 26.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. Porzingis’ ability to stretch the floor as well as be an inside presence will be a massive bonus for the Celtics, as teams will have to game plan for him on offense, unlike Robert Williams.

With Smart and Williams gone, the most aggressive players on the roster are Derrick White and Payton Prichard. Both of these players will go above and beyond to facilitate winning if they can get adequate runs and have positive health throughout the year. Smart and Williams are profound losses, but the Celtics have enough talent to come right back and make another push t the Conference Finals at the minimum.
