Anthony Davis has been under fire in recent days after he failed to make an impact on the Los Angeles Lakers vs. Denver Nuggets Western Conference Finals series. AD tried his best and actually put up good numbers, but his effort wasn’t impactful enough to get a win for the Lakers.
A lot has been said about this situation after the series ended, and JJ Redick has shared his honest thoughts on how the league perceives Davis compared to the player he actually is.
“No matter how much we try to make Anthony Davis into this alpha, that’s not who he is. He’s a fantastic basketball player, an All-NBA player, an All-Defensive player, he’s not an alpha,” Redick said on ESPN’s “Get Up!” this morning.
“No matter how hard we try to spin the narrative. That is not who he is. He is awesome but that is not who he is,” Redick said. “The fact that he is not the best player on the Lakers, that speaks more to LeBron not being human than anything else.”

Against the Denver Nuggets, Davis was criticized for his lack of effort during some matches. Nikola Jokic dominated him all series long and he was unable to find a response for the Serbian big man. Even LeBron James and Austin Reaves let him know they needed more from him.
Ever since he was traded from the New Orleans Pelicans, Davis was touted as the present and future of the team, the player who would take the reins of the team when LeBron James started slowing down. Time has gone by and LeBron has started showing signs of slowing down, but Davis hasn’t reached the next level.
It’s not bad that he’s a sidekick more than the superhero, but not so many people see that. Davis is believed to be the leader of these Lakers once the King hangs the boots (which could happen soon), but his recent performances have created many doubts around the Lakers Nation.
Anthony Davis Might Be Traded Away This Offseason
So much so that Davis has been mentioned as a potential trade chip for the Purple and Gold. The Dallas Mavericks might be interested in him, and the New York Knicks were also mentioned as a good trade partner for the Lakers.
It’s unlikely that Davis will leave the Lakers this offseason, especially if the Lakers retain LeBron James and land Kyrie Irving or Trae Young. But if they run it back and AD once again fails to show up, the front office would have to make a decision on the future of this player.
