The Houston Rockets could return to their contending ways if they can draft Victor Wembanyama and sign James Harden next season.

The Houston Rockets have been among the worst teams in the NBA for the third consecutive season. The first time, they got the draft rights to Jalen Green with the 2nd overall pick in 2021. This year, they got the 3rd pick and a chance to draft Jabari Smith Jr. They have a young and exciting core with players like Alperen Sengun, Tari Eason, and others. But it could get even better for Houston.

James Harden is reportedly interested in coming back to Houston, something reporters asked him about and upset him. They are also among the worst teams in the NBA this season and will have the chance at possibly drafting Victor Wembanyama, making the Rockets on the verge of an incredibly scary team.

We had heard of superteams possibly being formed with the hopes of a team getting the No. 1 pick, as had happened in 2019 when the Knicks thought they could draft Zion Williamson along with signing Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. Similarly, a lot of things need to work out in Houston’s favor to make this pipe dream a reality.

Can The Houston Rockets Complete This Vision?

We have no way of finding out where Victor Wembanyama will be drafted until the day of the draft lottery. Houston is sure to end up with a high-lottery pick, but will it be the No. 1 pick? That’s tough to predict, but every fanbase is hoping they get the chance to draft Wembanyama, who many believe might be the next GOAT of the sport.

If they don’t get Wembanyama and if the Philadelphia 76ers make a deep playoff run, Harden might just stay put. If the Rockets get the second pick and select Scoot Henderson, signing Harden would directly impede his growth. It’s a long time until the 2023 offseason, so the Rockets can see how everything plays out before committing to anything.
