Another postseason has arrived, and with it, the same old questions: Are the Boston Celtics ready to go back-to-back? Are the OKC Thunder or the Cleveland Cavaliers ready to take the next step? Will a surprise team break through like Miami in 2023 or Houston this year?

As the 2025 NBA Playoffs tip off, it’s the perfect time to look back—not just at this season’s hype, but at which teams have actually been getting it done when it matters most.  From the Golden State Warriors stacking rings to the Milwaukee Bucks riding Giannis to consistent contention, some teams have built legacies, while others are still searching for a single breakthrough.

This piece breaks down how many playoff series wins each franchise has earned over the last 10 years (2015–2024), giving us a clear view of who’s been real and who’s just been noise.

Atlanta Hawks

Playoff Series Won: 5

Best Result: Eastern Conference Finals – Losing 2-4 vs. Milwaukee Bucks (2021), Losing 0-4 vs. Cleveland Cavaliers (2015)

The Atlanta Hawks’ 2021 Cinderella run to the Eastern Conference Finals gave fans a glimpse of a bright future, but they haven’t come close since. Over the last 10 years, they’ve won three series, mostly riding the highs and lows of Trae Young’s offense-heavy leadership. Inconsistency and defensive lapses have kept Atlanta from taking the next step. The franchise could face a major shakeup if another early exit comes this spring.

Boston Celtics

Playoff Series Won: 16

Best Result: NBA Champions – Winning 4-1 vs. Dallas Mavericks (2024)

The Celtics have become the model of long-term competitiveness, winning 16 playoff series in the past 10 years and finally breaking through with a title in 2024. Their duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown continues to dominate, and they boast the league’s best two-way balance. Every year, they’re a threat, and this season is no different as they enter the playoffs as favorites again. It’s title or bust for Boston from here on out.

Brooklyn Nets

Playoff Series Won: 1

Best Result: Second Round – Losing 3-4 vs. Milwaukee Bucks (2021)

Brooklyn’s “Big Three” era (Durant, Harden, Kyrie) burned bright and fast, delivering exactly one playoff series win and a truckload of what-ifs when Kevin Durant nearly took them to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021.

Since then, the franchise has been stuck between rebuilding and treading water, with no clear direction. Cam Thomas was solid this season (24.0 PPG), but he’s not the #1 guy a team builds around. The Nets are overdue for a reset, and finally seem to be heading that way.

Charlotte Hornets

Playoff Series Won: 0

Best Result: First Round – Losing 3-4 vs. Miami Heat (2016)

The Charlotte Hornets are, unfortunately, an NBA team that hasn’t won a single playoff series since 1998, let alone over the last 10 years. Superstar LaMelo Ball only played 47 games this season, and Brandon Miller’s solid campaign (21.0 PPG) was one of the few bright spots. The franchise keeps changing coaches, rosters, and GMs, but nothing seems to stick. It’s been a decade of irrelevance, and fans are running out of patience.

Chicago Bulls

Playoff Series Won: 1

Best Result: Second Round – Losing 2-4 vs. Cleveland Cavaliers (2015)

The Bulls haven’t won a playoff series since the Jimmy Butler era, and this decade has been all bark, no bite. Despite having solid veterans like DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine, the team hovered around mediocrity and never broke through. Injuries, lack of spacing, and roster imbalance plagued another underwhelming 2024–25 campaign. Chicago needs to finally pick a direction — rebuild or go all-in — because spinning in circles hasn’t worked.

Cleveland Cavaliers

Playoff Series Won: 14

Best Result: NBA Champions – Winning vs. Golden State Warriors 4-3 (2016)

Since LeBron James’ heroic run in 2016 brought the Cavs their first and only championship, Cleveland searched for a new identity before striking big over the last few seasons. They’ve won three series over the past decade but have largely been in rebuild mode since 2018.

Now led by Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley, the Cavs are back in the playoffs and are a legitimate contender after winning 64 games and holding the first seed in the Eastern Conference. This year feels like the turning point – championship or bust, and that is actually great news for Cavs fans because they have hope that doesn’t involve LeBron James.

Dallas Mavericks

Playoff Series Won: 5

Best Result: NBA Finals – Losing 1-4 vs. Boston Celtics (2024)

Luka Doncic carried Dallas to the 2024 NBA Finals in one of the most impressive playoff runs of the decade. With five series wins over the past 10 years, the Mavericks were finally back in the national spotlight, but that all changed once they decided to trade Luka to the Lakers, of all places.

Kyrie Irving’s presence still gives them a chance to contend, and Anthony Davis is a top-10 player in the game when healthy, meaning they can explode on both ends at any time. However, we feel the Lakers are in a better position moving forward with Luka than the Mavericks are after the trade.

Denver Nuggets

Playoff Series Won: 9

Best Result: NBA Champions – Winning 4-1 vs. Miami Heat (2023)

The Denver Nuggets’ 2023 championship cemented Nikola Jokic’s place as one of the greatest players of this generation, and they’ve remained a consistent playoff threat with seven series wins in the last decade. But after shockingly firing Michael Malone just a week before the 2025 playoffs, things suddenly feel unstable around the current MVP frontrunner (29.6 PPG, 12.7 RPG, 10.2 APG).

Jamal Murray had a solid season, 21.4 points and 6.0 assists per game, but his inconsistency and injuries continue to raise long-term questions. This postseason could be a crossroads moment for Denver’s core.

Detroit Pistons

Playoff Series Won: 0

Best Result: First Round – Losing 0-4 vs. Cleveland Cavaliers (2016), Losing 0-4 vs. Milwaukee Bucks (2019)

Detroit’s playoff drought has become one of the longest-running stories in the league, with zero series wins and very few postseason trips since 2015. Cade Cunningham’s rise in 2025 has brought hope, but the team is still developing its identity.

Coach of the Year candidate JB Bickerstaff has his hands full trying to turn potential into production, and this year is the first chance as they take on the New York Knicks in the first round of the playoffs.

Golden State Warriors

Playoff Series Won: 23

Best Result: NBA Champions – Winning 4-2 vs. Cleveland Cavaliers (2015), Winning 4-1 vs. Cleveland Cavaliers (2017), Winning 4-1 vs. Cleveland Cavaliers (2018), Winning 4-2 vs. Boston Celtics (2022)

Golden State remains the most dominant dynasty of the modern era, winning 23 playoff series and four titles in the last decade. Even as the core of Curry and Green ages, they’ve remained a tough out in any series, and they have been bolstered by the undeniable presence of “Playoff” Jimmy Butler.

The dominance days may be behind them, but their culture of excellence persists, and we cannot ignore what the Warriors can do in terms of looking ahead to the Western Conference Finals. This year might be their last real shot at one more magical run.

Houston Rockets

Playoff Series Won: 7

Best Result: Western Conference Finals – Losing 3-4 vs. Golden State Warriors (2018)

After years in the lottery wilderness, the Rockets are officially back with a ferocious young core and one of the best defenses in basketball. They made the Western Conference Finals in 2018, but that was when James Harden was a perennial MVP candidate.

Right now, the future looks incredibly bright. Ime Udoka’s leadership has transformed this group into a legitimate contender. Now the pressure is on to add a star this summer and take the next step if they can’t defeat the Warriors in the first round.

Indiana Pacers

Playoff Series Won: 2

Best Result: Eastern Conference Finals – Losing 0-4 vs. Boston Celtics (2024)

The Pacers made some noise last year with an exciting playoff run, and they’ve now won two series in the last decade. Last season, Tyrese Haliburton’s elite playmaking has turned them into a fun watch, and Rick Carlisle’s experience steadied the ship. The roster is deep, but can they defend at a high enough level to make a run again in 2025? This postseason will tell us whether they’re real or just entertaining.

Los Angeles Clippers

Playoff Series Won: 4

Best Result: Western Conference Finals – Losing 2-4 vs. Phoenix Suns (2021)

The Clippers were supposed to be a dynasty when they paired Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, but they’ve won just four playoff series in the past 10 years and never reached the Finals. Injuries, chemistry issues, and brutal collapses have defined the era more than success.

With James Harden now in the mix and Paul George gone, the window has almost completely shut. If they don’t make noise in 2025, it’s time to pull the plug and rebuild because Leonard will need to stay healthy and another injury-ridden campaign will frustrate everybody in LA.

Los Angeles Lakers

Playoff Series Won: 6

Best Result: NBA Champions – Winning 4-2 vs. Miami Heat (2020)

The 2020 bubble title gave the Lakers one more banner for the rafters, but the road since has been rocky. LeBron James continues to defy Father Time, and Luka Doncic’s presence opens the championship window even more.

With only six series wins since 2015, L.A. has underachieved given its star power, but everything has literally changed following this season’s trade deadline. There isn’t an excuse for LeBron James and Luka Doncic to not lead the Lakers to the Western Conference Finals, and they have a great chance to do that.

Memphis Grizzlies

Playoff Series Won: 2

Best Result: Western Conference Semifinals – Losing 2-4 vs. Golden State Warriors (2015), Losing 2-4 vs. Golden State Warriors (2022)

Memphis had built something special before injuries and Ja Morant’s off-court issues derailed their momentum. They won two series during the peak of their rise but couldn’t sustain it. The 2024-25 season was a disaster with health and chemistry problems (firing Taylor Jenkins), forcing them to reset. They’ll need to re-establish their identity next year — or risk wasting their window.

Miami Heat

Playoff Series Won: 9

Best Result: NBA Finals – Losing 2-4 vs. Los Angeles Lakers (2020), Losing 1-4 vs. Denver Nuggets (2023)

Miami’s been the East’s most resilient team of the decade, reaching the Finals twice and consistently punching above their weight. Erik Spoelstra’s coaching and the Heat’s “culture” mantra have kept them dangerous regardless of seed.

But after the Finals loss in 2023, the cracks began to show with aging stars and shooting struggles. Of course, the Jimmy Butler situation detailed the team’s season in 2025, and we aren’t sure if Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro can be the cornerstones for long-term contention.

Milwaukee Bucks

Playoff Series Won: 8

Best Result: 2021 NBA Champions – Winning 4-2 vs. Phoenix Suns (2021)

The Bucks have been a juggernaut, powered by Giannis Antetokounmpo’s freakish dominance and a deep supporting cast. Their 2021 title solidified their place in league history, and they’ve been a consistent threat in the East since.

However, aging pieces and coaching changes have disrupted the rhythm. This year’s playoffs will reveal whether Milwaukee still has enough juice to make one more run, although that also greatly depends on Damian Lillard’s health.

Minnesota Timberwolves

Playoff Series Won: 2

Best Result: Western Conference Finals – Losing 1-4 vs. Dallas Mavericks (2024)

Minnesota finally broke through in 2024 with two playoff series wins, giving fans a reason to believe in this Karl-Anthony Towns–Anthony Edwards duo. For most of the decade, the Wolves were a non-factor in the postseason, mired in dysfunction and missed potential.

Surprisingly, the front office decided to move Towns and have lowered their championship ceiling as a result. Still, they have Anthony Edwards, and that could be the difference for them moving forward.

New Orleans Pelicans

Playoff Series Won: 1

Best Result: Western Conference Semifinal – Losing 1-4 vs. Golden State Warriors (2018)

The Pelicans have a loaded roster on paper, and yet it hasn’t translated into postseason success, with just one series win. The Pelicans have kick-started a rebuild, moving on from Brandon Ingram and looking to trade Zion Williamson, so it has truly been a shame that potential has not been realized. We don’t expect Zion to return to the Pelicans after the 2025 offseason as a result.

New York Knicks

Playoff Series Won: 2

Best Result: Eastern Conference Semifinals – Losing 2-4 vs. Miami Heat (2023), Losing 3-4 vs. Indiana Pacers (2024)

The Knicks’ lone series win in 2023 and 2024 gave fans a taste of postseason joy, but they’ve yet to return to real contender status. Jalen Brunson has emerged as a star and the heart of the team, and the trade for Karl-Anthony Towns was genius. They enter this year’s playoffs as contenders based on their talent, but at some point, moral victories need to become actual ones.

Oklahoma City Thunder

Playoff Series Won: 3

Best Result: Western Conference Finals – Losing 3-4 vs. Golden State Warriors (2016)

It’s been nearly a decade since OKC was truly dangerous in the playoffs, but the tide has turned fast. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is an MVP candidate, and the team just locked up the No. 1 seed in the West after making the second round last year. Sam Presti’s vision of stacking assets and developing talent is finally paying off. With two playoff series wins in the past 10 years, expect that number to grow very soon.

Orlando Magic

Playoff Series Won: 0

Best Result: First-Round – Losing 1-4 vs. Toronto Raptors (2019), Losing 1-4 vs. Milwaukee Bucks (2020), Losing 3-4 vs. Cleveland Cavaliers (2024)

The Magic haven’t won a playoff series in the last decade, but for the first time in years, there’s genuine excitement around the franchise. Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner have blossomed into future All-Stars, and the team’s defensive identity has become one of the league’s toughest puzzles. Orlando is back in the postseason, and while expectations are low, the foundation is strong. A first-round win this year against the reigning NBA champion Celtics would be a massive milestone and a historic achievement for them.

Philadelphia 76ers

Playoff Series Won: 5

Best Result: Second Round – Losing 1-4 vs. Boston Celtics (2018), Losing 3-4 vs. Toronto Raptors (2019), Losing 3-4 vs. Atlanta Hawks (2021), Losing 2-4 vs. Miami Heat (2022), Losing 3-4 vs. Boston Celtics (2023)

The Process gave Philly years of playoff appearances and not a single trip past the second round to show for it. Joel Embiid was dominant when he played (23.8 PPG, 8.2 RPG), but he missed 60+ games with another injury, and the Sixers fell out of the play-in. Tyrese Maxey’s breakout (26.3 PPG) softened the blow, but the team still feels capped, especially with Paul George proving to be a disastrous signing. Until Embiid proves he can stay healthy in April and May, this story won’t change.

Phoenix Suns

Playoff Series Won: 5

Best Result: NBA Finals – Losing 2-4 vs. Milwaukee Bucks (2021)

The 2021 run to the Finals was supposed to be the beginning, but it’s starting to look more like the peak. This year’s “superteam” of Durant, Booker, and Beal was undermined by injuries, chemistry issues, and a shocking late-season collapse. Durant still averaged 26.6 PPG and Booker 25.6, but the defense and depth were glaring holes. The Suns may need to blow it up before it completely breaks down on its own.

Portland Trail Blazers

Playoff Series Won: 3

Best Result: Western Conference Finals – Losing 0-4 vs. Golden State Warriors (2019)

Dame’s era delivered some thrilling playoff moments, capped by that 2019 WCF run, but Portland hasn’t won a series since. Now, they’re deep in a rebuild centered around Scoot Henderson (12.7 PPG, 5.1 APG), who showed flashes but looked overwhelmed for stretches this season. Shaedon Sharpe and Anfernee Simons are fun, but they’re not franchise-changers yet. The road back to relevance is long, and the Blazers are only at mile one.

Sacramento Kings

Playoff Series Won: 0

Best Result: First Round – Losing 3-4 vs. Golden State Warriors (2023)

After finally breaking their 16-year playoff drought in 2023, the Kings looked poised to become a staple in the West, but stagnation hit fast. De’Aaron Fox was traded this season, Mike Brown was fired, and there isn’t much hope for them with aging stars DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine not being the perfect duo moving forward. Overall, one playoff series win in 10 years feels underwhelming considering their talent.

San Antonio Spurs

Playoff Series Won: 3

Best Result: Western Conference Finals – Losing 0-4 vs. Golden State Warriors (2017)

The 2014 title was a masterclass in team basketball, and they made it to the WCF in 2017, but since then, San Antonio has fallen off the NBA map. That said, Victor Wembanyama (24.3 PPG, 11.0 RPG, 3.8 BPG) has completely reignited the franchise’s future. They lost a ton of games this year, but the growth was real, and the culture remains strong under Gregg Popovich. The Spurs might not have playoff wins now, but no one wants to face them in 2026 and beyond.

Toronto Raptors

Playoff Series Won: 9

Best Result: NBA Champions – Winning 4-1 vs. Golden State Warriors (2019)

Since winning it all in 2019, the Raptors have spiraled into post-Kawhi purgatory, with just one playoff series win since. They did poorly in 2024–25, finishing out of the playoffs (30-52) and fully embracing a rebuild. Masai Ujiri has patience, and the fanbase was running low on theirs before the Brandon Ingram trade gave them hope again.

Utah Jazz

Playoff Series Won: 3

Best Result: Western Conference Semifinals – Losing 0-4 vs. Golden State Warriors (2017), Losing 1-4 vs. Houston Rockets (2018), Losing 2-4 vs. Los Angeles Clippers (2021)

Utah had real shots during the Donovan Mitchell–Rudy Gobert era, but it always fell short of the Western Conference Finals. Now they’ve hit reset, and the rebuild is in full effect. Isiaha Collier and Keyonte George have shown flashes, and Lauri Markkanen (19.0 PPG) continues to be a bright spot, but the team needs a future star. It’s been three years without a playoff berth, and probably a couple more before they’re back.

Washington Wizards

Playoff Series Won: 2

Best Result: Eastern Conference Semifinals – Losing 2-4 vs. Atlanta Hawks (2015), Losing 3-4 vs. Boston Celtics (2017)

The Wizards haven’t won a playoff series since John Wall was healthy and Bradley Beal wasn’t a punchline, and they’re now at rock bottom. This year’s roster, led by Jordan Poole (20.5 PPG), was one of the worst in the league. The front office finally committed to a rebuild, but the lack of elite young talent is glaring. In D.C., the goal isn’t a playoff series win, it’s becoming watchable again.
