The Boston Celtics may be Jayson Tatum’s team, but they wouldn’t be playing in these Finals without Jaylen Brown, who has emerged as a talented two-way star.

Ahead of Game 4 on Friday, basketball legend Isiah Thomas (who played point guard for the Pistons) spoke about Brown and about the moment he knew the young stud was unlike the rest.

“Right after they lost.. he took a red eye and flew to New York, and the next day, this dude knocking in my door at my house, and he’s talking about, ‘How can I get better?’” Thomas said of the Celtis All-Star, via NBA TV. “Like you say, you can get somebody the book, but they have to read the book. They have to comprehend… You talk about somebody who wants to learn… He’s a seeker. He goes out and finds it.”

Brown, 25, is a core member of the Celtics and a cornerstone to their future. In these Finals, he has really stepped up to provide a boost for his team on both ends of the floor.

He has earned Antoine Walker’s vote for Finals MVP.

“I would have to go with Jaylen Brown. I think that Game 1, when he played that fourth quarter, getting them back into the game. Obviously, he wasn’t great in Game 2… but in Game 3, he was terrific. The way he started the game, the way he finished it. He’s been consistent. And I don’t know if you felt this way, but in the Eastern Conference Finals, he could’ve easily been the MVP.”

The Brown/Tatum duo has been a thing for years, but this is the first time they’ve reached the Finals. In what started off as an extremely difficult season, the Cs came together and figured things out.

Now, they stand on the verge of winning a title. The crazy part is, this is likely just the beginning of a dominant era for the 17x champs.
