Ja Morant has earned millions during his time in the NBA and while he could afford to pay for the best chefs, barbers, and assistants, he prefers to keep it somewhat internal. During his recent court hearing, Ja revealed he has hired Tee, his father, and Davonte Pack, his childhood friend, to provide those services, via ESPN.

“During his own testimony, Morant said he pays his father, who lives on the same street, to serve as his chef and barber… During his testimony, Morant said Pack lives with him and is paid to be his assistant.”

Interestingly, Tee Morant actually worked barber in the past. At first, Tee had considered playing professional basketball overseas, after suiting up for Claflin University. When his wife Jamie became pregnant with Ja, he abandoned the idea and instead, became a barber. He worked at the Precision Cuts Barber Shop in Sumter for two decades, before his son became the star that he is today.

As for Pack, it is interesting that Ja continues to associate with him, as there is a notion that he has been a negative influence on the Memphis Grizzlies star. Not only is he associating with him, but the two are staying together as well, which might concern some.

If there is one service that Morant might not have to pay for, for a while, it could be that of a bodyguard. It turns out the Grizzlies have taken special measures to ensure they can keep him out of trouble. While the team was playing against the Rockets in Houston on December 13, Morant had to remain at the hotel, where a watchful eye was being kept on him.

“Keeping a close eye on Morant was Kevin Helms, the Grizzlies’ head of team security, whose duties this season focus almost solely on shadowing Morant, team sources said.”

Well, I certainly don’t blame the organization for going to these lengths. If Morant messes up one more time, you really worry about his future in the NBA, as the league would come down very hard on him. The Grizzlies are hoping that Ja has learned his lesson with his 25-game suspension, but they can’t be certain.

“Privately, the Grizzlies hope that Morant has learned from the suspensions, the public apologies and the embarrassment. They hope this time away from playing has allowed him to mature and be the leader the franchise expects and needs. But uncertainty still looms.”

In his first press conference of the season, Morant stated that his words wouldn’t mean anything to anyone, as he had disappointed those who believed in him with the second gun incident earlier this year. He can only show that he has learned from his mistakes with his actions and hopefully, there won’t be any more controversies surrounding him in the future.

Ja Morant’s Memorable First Game Of The Season

Morant’s long suspension finally ended on Tuesday night, as he made his season debut against the New Orleans Pelicans. For the longest time, it seemed like it was going to be a game to forget, as the Pelicans led by as many as 24 points at one stage in the first half.

In the second, though, Morant took over, as he scored 27 points to lead a furious comeback. Ja capped off the night with a memorable game-winner as the Grizzlies won 115-113. Had you given this as a script for a Hollywood movie, it would have been labeled as very unrealistic, but that’s exactly what happened.

The two-time All-Star ended the night with 34 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block, as the Grizzlies improved to 7-19. It seems almost impossible at this point, but Morant would definitely be backing himself to get his team into the postseason despite the hole they dug themselves into in his absence.
