Grizzlies star Ja Morant has had a rough year in the NBA. Despite spectacular play on the court, a series of scandals have rocked his career, and he now faces a 25-game suspension to start next season.

If you’re looking for someone to blame, Ja has to be at the top of the list for his string of poor decisions as one of the league’s most marketed young stars. But there is a growing sentiment that, perhaps, the NBA community is going a little too rough on the young point guard. According to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, Ja and his camp feel that the league is actively working against him

“I have heard indirectly that Ja and people close to Ja, perhaps people formerly close to Ja, have this feeling that the NBA is out to get them. That the media is out to get them,” said MacMahon on The Hoop Collective.

It is true that the NBA world has not been kind to Ja since the outbreak of the original scandals, but one could argue that Morant actually got off easy. He only got a 25-game suspension, which could have been way more if Adam Silver wanted to make a stronger statement.

So with Morant’s reputation at an all-time low, he can’t expect fans and experts to give him the benefit of the doubt. He’ll have to earn back the trust of the people, and even then, there will be those who will always doubt his judgment.

What’s Next For Ja After NBA Suspension?

With Morant set to miss the first few weeks of next season, he will have to work extra hard to deliver a quality campaign for the Grizzlies. Last year, after getting off to a great start Memphis flamed out and lost in the first round of the playoffs.

If the Grizz want a different outcome next time, then they’ll need to add depth and some veteran leadership to get the culture on track.

Until then, Ja Morant will be quietly waiting for his chance to make amends for his mistakes and prove that he can still be the franchise guy we thought he was not too long ago.

In the 2022-23 season, no. 12 averaged 26.2 points, 8.1 assists, and 5.9 rebounds per game on 46.6% shooting.
