Speaking at a youth basketball camp in New Orleans, Tee Morant (the father of Grizzlies star Ja Morant) opened up on the series of incidents that resulted in a 25-game suspension for his son. The scene, which took place this past weekend, went viral online after fans heard what the NBA dad had to say about the whole ordeal.

“My son didn’t get in trouble cause of people around him, he got in trouble because of his decisions. So always be mindful of every decision y’all make because it’ll take over you and consume you… whenever y’all go anywhere just think everything is looking at you, everything is magnified. The smallest thing you can do can make the biggest difference in your life.”

After being picked second in the 2019 draft, Ja rose to stardom almost right away and quickly secured himself as the future of the Grizzlies franchise. But despite impressive play, things took a turn for the worst when a series of scandals bruised his reputation. Some of the accusations include punching a teenager during a pickup basketball game, aiming red laser pointers at other players, and showing up to Foot Locker for a fight with an employee.

Then, over the span of a few months, Morant earned himself a lengthy suspension due to brandishing a gun on Instagram Live on two separate occasions.

Since his latest scandal, Morant has kept his head down but it will take some more time before anyone forgets his antics over the past year. If you’re the Grizzlies, the only hope towards victory now is waiting for Morant to return and praying for a miracle.

What’s Next For Ja And The Grizzlies?

Morant, 24, is still one of the most impressive young talents in basketball. With career averages of 22.4 points, 7.4 assists, and 4.8 rebounds per game, he’s got all the tools to be the next generational great for Memphis.

But until Ja grows up and matures mentally, there will always be questions about how he can lead. Last season, we saw the Grizzlies flame out after just a few games in the West playoffs but the pressure is on for them to do something more.

The hope in Memphis is that Ja can get his mind right, steer the Grizzlies back on course, and that the team can rally together a run after years of disappointment.
