Kevin Durant’s trade request has been the biggest storyline this offseason, and the entire NBA world is waiting to see where he ends up. However, something that has recently been touted as a possibility is Kevin Durant potentially staying with the Brooklyn Nets, and the franchise has resisted trading him thus far.
NBA analyst Jalen Rose has suggested that the Brooklyn Nets shouldn’t panic about Kevin Durant’s trade request and suggested that the Nets should try to work things out with the superstar. (2:10):
If you’re the organization, don’t panic. Kyrie saw the Celtics make the Finals. KD saw them just winning without him. He’s going to be as motivated as any player in the NBA this year. You don’t just move him. You get him in the office, you tell him “I’m going to figure out a way to work this out with you”.
A recent report suggested that Kevin Durant would be meeting with Nets governor Joe Tsai this week about his trade request. Perhaps that meeting could be the stage for a conversation about Kevin Durant potentially staying with the team.
“What I’m hearing is that KD is going to meet with the owner this week,” the source told Heavy Sports. “He’s going to go directly to the owner, Joe Tsai, sometime this week. We’ll see how that works.”
Whether the intent of the meeting is to smooth over a relationship that suffered at least a hairline fracture when Durant, with four years left on his contract, asked to be traded is uncertain.
“I don’t know,” said the exec. “I have no idea what’s going to come of that meeting. There are some things that KD is unhappy about, and I’m not sure any of that gets fixed here. But maybe it does.”
It remains to be seen if Kevin Durant elects to remain with the Brooklyn Nets, or if he ends up reiterating his desire for a trade. Perhaps, we will see a resolution to this situation in the near future.
Hopefully, Kevin Durant manages to end up on a contender, whether it is on the Brooklyn Nets or on another team. He is still a star that is producing at a top-tier level, and Kevin Durant can certainly still lead a team to the championship.
