This offseason, guard James Harden requested a trade from the Philadelphia 76ers after opting into his $35.6 million player option. He has recently been away from the team, and though many assumed this was due to his situation with the 76ers, it seems as though his absence is absolutely warranted.
NBA insider Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson recently revealed that Harden’s return to the 76ers is uncertain as he is taking care of his ill mother.
“Harden’s return is uncertain because he’s tending to his mom who is ill, I’m told. The mindset of the 76ers PG is that the health of his mother comes first.”
“‘He’s going through it,’ a source with knowledge shares. ‘He loves to compete & he is in the best shape of his life. But he feels a sense of betrayal from Philly.’ That betrayal apparently stems from Harden publicly calling Sixers team President Daryl Morey ‘a liar.'”
“Per a source: ‘Hopefully he returns, but family comes first.'”

There is no doubt that some things are simply bigger than basketball. Harden should be able to take time and take care of his mother. Though some might be skeptical of this claim given all that went on between Harden and the 76ers this summer, this situation is clearly no joking matter.
This past season, Harden averaged 21.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 10.7 assists per game, while shooting 38.5% from 3PT range. He can still be a very impactful player for a championship team, especially as a No. 3 option.
Daryl Morey Is Reportedly Holding Up A Deal That Would Send James Harden To The Los Angeles Clippers
It is no secret that James Harden wants to join the Los Angeles Clippers. However, the 76ers don’t seem inclined to move him to the Clippers right now, and it was previously reported that Daryl Morey is the one holding back trade talks that would send Harden to the Clippers.
“The Clippers want to get a deal done soon. They’re offering a first-round pick, a draft-pick swap, and expiring contracts for the 2018 MVP and three-time scoring champion. And a source said Los Angeles doesn’t want to raise their offer. As the only team bidding for him, the source said the Clippers don’t feel a need to do so. The source said Morey is the one holding up the deal.”
At some point, Morey and the 76ers will have to move Harden to another team to avoid losing him for nothing. There is a chance that they elect to move him to a team he doesn’t want to go to though, and we’ll see where he ends up in the future.
James Harden Would Be A Good Fit With The Clippers
It is quite easy to see why Harden wants to join the Clippers. He would be an elite floor general for the team and could make things easier for Kawhi Leonard and Paul George with his passing.
Harden would give the team another star-level player, and help them compete with Western Conference powerhouses such as the Phoenix Suns and the Denver Nuggets. Adding another gifted offensive player could be the move that puts the Clippers over the top.
Ultimately, the Clippers’ strategy is clearly waiting out the situation with Harden until Morey and the 76ers are willing to accept the offer. As of now, it seems as though they are the only team in the Harden sweepstakes, and we’ll see how long this continues to go on.
