The Kyrie Irving saga with the Dallas Mavericks is yet to reach its hottest point, but while the 2022-23 NBA season keeps going, the rumors about the point guard’s future keep coming.

This summer, he could leave the Mavericks, but the team is reportedly keen to keep him on board. Jason Kidd recently had the chance to talk about this situation, keeping it real about the chances of Kyrie staying in Dallas.

“I think he truly is happy here. I think he wants to be here,” Kidd told Rachel Nichols. “But that doesn’t guarantee us that he’s going to stay. He has the option and the opportunity as a professional to look elsewhere, because he is a free agent, and I don’t want to take that away from him, being a player who was in that situation. We’re going to do everything to keep him. At the end of the day it’s his decision, but we believe we’ll see what that is, but we hope that we’ve done everything to make him comfortable, and want to be a Mavs for life.”

Kyrie’s first half-season in Dallas wasn’t the best, as he struggled to get wins alongside Luka Doncic. They are a terrific duo on offense, but when it comes to the other end of the ball, the Mavericks faced many issues.

His chemistry with Luka Doncic wasn’t as good as expected, and some think it’s because Luka doesn’t know how to share his duties with Kyrie. That’s something that could hurt the team if they keep the point guard, but it’s Kidd’s job to find a solution to this as the Mavs aim to win another championship once and for all.

Dallas Mavericks Are Ready To Retain Kyrie This Offseason

The team is reportedly ready to do everything in its power to keep Kyrie on the roster. With the Los Angeles Lakers reportedly out of the picture in this race, Dallas should have an easier path to secure Kyrie’s services beyond this season.

Nevertheless, let’s not forget that Irving is still a top talent in the NBA, and if the Lakers don’t want to sign him, another team will. Money could be a big factor for Kyrie here, which could work in favor of the Mavs. They can give Irving the most money out of anybody, but the player wants to see his options before making a final decision.
