Despite being the 2nd seed in the East, the Boston Celtics are facing a lot of uncertainty about the future. With their young star, Jaylen Brown, just a few years out from free agency, there are some real questions about his long-term commitment to play as Jayson Tatum’s sidekick.

But as Celtics star Jaylen Brown put it in a recent interview with Shams Charania, he has no desire to break up with his co-star

“I get why people always try to break up duos because so far we’ve been incredibly successful. Hopefully, we can be even more successful — the only thing that would put the ribbon on top is getting a championship… At this point, we’re part of each other’s destiny.”

In just a few short years together, Jayson and Jaylen have really put their stamp on the Eastern Conference. This year, they will follow up a trip to the NBA Finals with a top-two finish in the standings and a good chance to come out of the East once again.

Still, unless Jaylen signs an extension with the Celtics, there will be teams prepared to make a push when he becomes a free agent next summer.

Could Jaylen Leave The Celtics Within Two Years?

With averages of 26.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game on 49.3% shooting, many fans have been clamoring to see Brown as the star of his own team, away from the shadow of Tatum.

Still, Celtics fans should be feeling good about the future and where they stand, given how much success they’ve had over the past three years.

“I feel great,” Brown said about his situation. “I’m on a 50-win team right now that you can’t take for granted. Tonight was the 50th win. And right now, I’m focused on helping to lead my team for another playoff run. In terms of speculation, et cetera, I can’t speculate on anything above what I’m doing right now. I think sometimes when people write articles, they get taken out of context, especially when writers have their own agendas or whatever.”

While Tatum and Brown have yet to prove they belong in the same stratosphere as LeBron James and Anthony Davis, they could easily get there if they become champions this summer.
