Jayson Tatum is one of the best forwards in the league, and he just led the Boston Celtics to the 2022 NBA Finals. He had a very productive season this year on an individual level, averaging 26.9 PPG, 8.0 RPG, and 4.4 APG.

This year, the Boston Celtics star earned a spot on the First team All-NBA. According to Bobby Marks of ESPN, if he is able to make an All-NBA team after the 2022-23 season, Jayson Tatum will be able to sign a five-year, $298 million supermax contract extension. However, he would have to wait until the 2024 offseason due to the “service criteria” requirement.

The Celtics, Jayson Tatum earned All-NBA honors in 2021-22 and will become supermax eligible if he earns All-NBA once again in 2022-23. However, Tatum would have to wait until the 2024 offseason to sign a five-year, $298 million extension. He is ineligible next offseason because he is one year short of the years of service criteria.

There is no doubt that Jayson Tatum would deserve this supermax contract extension. He is a budding superstar and has shown that he can be the focal point of a contending team.

The Boston Celtics may end up making it back to the NBA Finals next year. They acquired Malcolm Brogdon this offseason, and that will give them that steady guard who can be a third option offensively behind Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. It is clear that the Celtics want to continue to improve as a team, and aren’t just content with one Finals trip.

Jayson Tatum struggled heavily in the NBA Finals, but perhaps he can use that as a learning experience going forward. The best is yet ahead for Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics, and it’ll be exciting to see what they can achieve in the coming years.
