Reggie Jackson Says He Would Have Retired From The NBA If Not For Paul George: “I Really Was Gonna Retire. My Lifeline, My Brother Here Saved Me.”

Reggie Jackson has turned himself into an integral part of the puzzle for the Los Angeles Clippers as they look to finally win an NBA championship, but things weren’t always going this well for him. Jackson was one of the better young point guards in the league back in 2015 when the Pistons signed him to a 5-year, $80 million deal, but things went downhill after that.

Injuries repeatedly kept him out of action for a significant amount of time almost every season and the Pistons ended up waiving him in 2020. The Clippers immediately snapped him up in what has proven to be an inspired decision and Paul George played a big part in that, something Reggie has always been very thankful to him for. Jackson, who was recently at George’s camp, spoke about how difficult it was for him towards the end of his time with the Pistons and how PG saved him.

Reggie Jackson at Paul George's camp:

"It really started making me question myself [late in Detroit tenure]… Don't let anybody ever do this to you in life, take the fun out of the things that you love to do. I really was gonna retire. My lifeline, my brother here saved me." pic.twitter.com/06l7yEonp1

This is just yet another story that speaks to the brotherhood that exists within the NBA. Everyone goes through some dark times in their lives and sometimes all it takes to get out of it, is someone who believes in you and wants you to get back to doing what you love.

Jackson has also in the past spoken about his gratitude to the Clippers as he said he wouldn’t be playing in the NBA if not for them. He repaid their faith in him by re-signing last year and with Kawhi Leonard, who is looking in great shape, hopefully staying healthy this upcoming season, they’ll be serious contenders for the title once again.

Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
