In the NBA, there are a lot of skilled players who are able to score in a myriad of ways and from any area of the court. Generally, NBA players believe that versatile scorers are the most skilled players in the league.

There is no doubt that each of the players that Tatum mentioned is supremely skilled. Kyrie Irving is arguably the most versatile isolation scorer in the league. Kevin Durant and Paul George are also supremely skilled shot creators for their size. Meanwhile, Devin Booker is a complete scorer, being particularly skilled in the midrange area. Tatum including himself in the list is also solid: he has the size and athleticism to score against anyone and is also a true three-level scorer who is particularly elite at 3PT shot creation.

This past season, Tatum averaged 30.1 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game for the Celtics. He is one of the best two-way players in the league, and perhaps next season we will see him ascend to being an MVP-level player.

The Boston Celtics Plan To Use Jayson Tatum At Point Guard Frequently

Throughout his time with the Celtics, Tatum has developed into a great playmaker. It seems as though the Celtics plan to lean into his passing ability next season. Previously, it was revealed that the Celtics plan to play Tatum at point guard a lot next season.

“Jayson Tatum is going to spend a lot of time at point guard. When he was out here in Los Angeles, that was one of the things that he worked on. That’s frankly what he did quite a bit in the playoffs is initiate the offense. I think he plays even more of that role going forward this season.”

The Celtics did acquire Jrue Holiday this summer, and he is a facilitating point guard that has an impact on both ends of the floor. However, he can also play the shooting guard position offensively, and Tatum will still likely be the primary playmaker on the squad.

The Boston Celtics Should Be Contenders Next Season

The Celtics are a team with a lot of talent, especially after making moves for Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis this offseason. Adding those two players to a core that features Tatum and Jaylen Brown puts them close to superteam territory. On top of the star power on the roster, the team also has quality role players such as Al Horford and Derrick White.

The front office has done everything possible to help Tatum and Brown to win a championship next year. Now it is on them to deliver, especially after the team fell short last season, losing to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Hopefully, we do see the Celtics win a championship at some point within the next few years. Their championship window is wide open right now, and next season could be their chance to win it all.
